🎩 Wearing an "other hat" this weekend!

On Saturday Lynne would have been found not at her desk, but at Tesco Amesbury with a collection bucket in hand - swapping her recruitment hat for her volunteer one as a fundraiser for Stars Appeal - Salisbury District Hospital's Charity 🤩

Alongside fellow volunteer Colin, Lynne spent the morning chatting to shoppers and talking about the projects the charity supports that makes such a difference to the hospital that serves our community.

A huge thank you to Laura, Tesco Amesbury’s Community Champion, for having us and supporting the collection.

Tesco's Community Champions do brilliant work linking stores like this one to local causes and it's this kind of local support that makes days like Saturday possible. 🙌

It's easy to think of volunteering purely in terms of the pounds raised but that's only part of the story. Standing inside a busy supermarket for a few hours also means:

🗣️ Real conversations - with people who've used the hospital's services, staff on their day off and total strangers who stop just to say thank you!

💡 Perspective - a few hours supporting a cause like this is a great leveller and a nice contrast to a normal working week.

❤️ Wellbeing - there's something genuinely good for your own mental health in doing something for no reason other than it helps someone else.

However you choose to give back, we can promise you'll get more out of it than you put in.

**Trust at work. It matters more than most employers realise.**

When you trust your employer everything changes. You speak up. You ask for help. You give your best because you feel safe enough to.

When that trust isn't there? It shows up in ways that are hard to ignore. The Sunday evening dread. The quiet anxiety about where you stand. The late-night job searches "just to see what's out there."

Over time, that takes a real toll on mental health.

Trust doesn't cost a thing to build but it costs everything to lose. Consistency, honesty, and genuinely checking in on your people (not just their targets) goes a long way.

If you're a manager or business owner, ask yourself honestly - do your people trust you?
