An emotive, true story which beautifully encapsulates the troubles and triumphs of living in a silent world.

Ever wondered what it’s like to live a lifetime in isolation—no communication, forced to learn in a language you can’t fully access?

Beyond Sound and Sight: Perspectives of Deaf and Deafblind invites you into this world. Deaf artists Princess Nidera and Eddie Szczepanik, joined by hearing cast members, use storytelling and signed songs to share the highs and lows of growing up Deaf in a hearing world.

The story begins in the 1980s, when Szczepanik was diagnosed with a serious eye condition, and continues to today, where Nidera—originally from the Philippines—navigates learning a new signed language and culture in Australia.

Stay after the show for a Q&A with the performers, to further deepen your understanding of their experiences.

"That the members adopt the Constitution attached to this Notice as the Constitution of Deafblind West Australians Inc, replacing the existing Rules of the Association, subject to the requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act 2015 (WA)."
