Meet Our Team: Samantha Jones

Or as many of our contractors, clients and suppliers know her, the person who makes sure everyone gets paid.

For the past 16 years, Sam has been the financial backbone of Sense Recruitment. As our General Manager of Finance, she oversees everything from payroll and reporting to compliance, audits, cashflow and the countless details that keep a business running smoothly.

While recruitment might be what people see, there's a lot happening behind the scenes, and Sam is at the centre of it all.

Need a management report? Sam can have it in your inbox before you've finished your coffee.

Need a contractor onboarded, compliant, payroll-ready and starting tomorrow? That's where Sam shines.

Novated leases, salary sacrifice, employee benefits, personal tax queries... all well within Sam's playbook. When she's not looking after Sense, she also moonlights with H&R Block and maintains her professional accounting credentials through the IPA every year.

Integrity sits at the heart of everything Sam does. Over the years she's guided Sense through bank audits, compliance reviews and even an ATO audit that was completed after a single meeting, something our accountant still talks about to this day.

She's fiercely loyal, incredibly dependable and genuinely cares about the people around her. Whether it's helping a contractor, supporting the team, paying suppliers early or keeping our debtor days in check, Sam approaches everything with professionalism and care.

If you've ever worked with Sam, you'll know that no problem is too big and no detail is too small. She has an incredible ability to make the complex seem simple, often solving problems before the rest of us even realise they exist.

She's also responsible for more than a few teas and coffees around the office and has mastered the art of scheduling her Bali escapes around non-pay weeks.

After 16 years, it's fair to say that Sense is in Sam's blood.

The experience, knowledge, integrity and care she brings to the business every day are a big part of what makes Sense what it is.

Meet the Team, Melinda Gale

Some people join your business and become employees. Others become part of the story. Melinda is definitely the latter.

Long before Sense Recruitment existed, Anita and Melinda worked together at another recruitment agency. When Anita started Sense, there was one person she knew she wanted alongside her, and thankfully Melinda said yes.

If you've ever been a candidate with Sense, there's a good chance you've spoken with Melinda. For many people, she's the first voice they hear. The reassuring conversation before an interview. The check-in call afterwards. The person who takes the time to understand what's happening in their world, not just what's written on their CV.

Recruitment is often described as connecting people with jobs. But Melinda has always seen it differently. Every day she helps people navigate career changes, redundancy, uncertainty, promotions and fresh starts. Sometimes people call looking for a job. Sometimes they simply need someone to listen.

Over the years we've received countless emails from candidates who wanted to say thank you. They remember the phone calls, the encouragement, the honesty and the way Melinda took the time to help them through what can often be a stressful process.

In an industry that often talks about candidate care, Melinda quietly delivers it every single day.

Outside of work, she's a country girl at heart. If there's a rodeo, bush race or country event happening somewhere in Western Australia, there's every chance Melinda will be there. In the office she's either incredibly quiet or incredibly loud, there is absolutely no middle ground. And everyone knows she doesn't function particularly well before her first coffee.

What has never changed is her genuine love of people and her willingness to help.

Candidates may not always remember every role they've applied for, but they remember the people who helped them along the way.

We're incredibly lucky to have Melinda as part of the Sense team.

Meet Carla Underwood.

For more than six years, Carla has been helping candidates navigate career moves and supporting clients to build great teams across Western Australia.
If you've worked with Carla, you'll know recruitment is never just about filling a role.

It's about understanding people, building relationships and doing the right thing by both the client and the candidate.

One of Carla's greatest strengths is the trust she builds. She's the type of person who remembers conversations from years ago, keeps in touch with candidates throughout their careers and genuinely takes an interest in their journey.

She's also built an extensive and trusted network across the WA market. When clients need that hard-to-find specialist, niche skillset or someone with highly specific industry experience, Carla is often able to tap into relationships developed over many years, helping connect organisations with talent that may never respond to an advertisement.

In an industry where speed can sometimes take priority, Carla believes integrity and governance matter. Taking the time to understand a brief properly. Being honest when a candidate isn't the right fit. Having the difficult conversations. Doing the right thing, even when it's not the easiest option. Those values underpin every interaction she has and are a big part of why so many candidates and clients continue to work with her year after year.

Around the office, Carla is known for bringing plenty of energy, laughter and the occasional practical joke. She has a knack for making recruitment fun, celebrating team successes and keeping spirits high during even the busiest periods. Her positivity is infectious and plays a big part in the culture we've built at Sense. Whether she's supporting a candidate, helping a client solve a hiring challenge or keeping things running behind the scenes, she brings professionalism, care and commitment to everything she does.

Today we’re celebrating 16 years of Samantha Jones, our Queen of Finance.

Sam makes sure everyone gets paid, the ATO stays happy… and fills the office with fear over printing in colour.

For 16 years, Sam has been the calm, steady force behind the scenes, keeping our numbers tight, our contractors looked after, and keeps the tea and coffee flowing for all of us in the office.

Sam is loved by the team and known for her patience, she has had practise whilst she waits for her beloved dockers to get themselves a premiership. This sets her in good stead as she sits next to Carla in the office.

Sam, we absolutely adore you. Thank you for everything you do, and for keeping us all in line.
