What if your next hire was already sitting quietly in Perth, waiting for the right opportunity?

One of the biggest misconceptions in recruitment is that the best candidates are always applying for jobs.

They're not.

Some are busy delivering projects. Some are leading teams. Some are quietly considering their next move but haven't updated LinkedIn, applied for a role, or told the market they're available.

And some are already sitting on our Talent Board.

At Sense Recruitment, we meet our candidates. We get to know them. We reference check them. We understand not just what they can do, but how they work, what motivates them, and the type of environment where they'll thrive.

That's why we created our Talent Board.

It's not a collection of random CVs.

It's a showcase of active professionals who are open to opportunities and have already been personally screened by our team. From technology and digital specialists to project professionals, corporate talent and executive leaders, these are people we've invested time in understanding.

In a market where advertising alone often misses the best people, access to pre-qualified talent can significantly shorten hiring timeframes and improve hiring outcomes. Sometimes the person you've been searching for is already known to us.

If you're planning a hire, before you write the ad, before you brief three agencies, before you spend weeks reviewing applications, take a look at our Talent Board.

Your next great hire might already be there.

New Contractors means new people included in our community.

The best feedback we can receive is hearing that someone felt comfortable enough to pick up the phone, ask questions, and know they would be supported. Switching roles can feel like running a gauntlet, we like to make it feel seamless.

We are proud to make the process feel personal, responsive and professional from start to finish.

Today we’re celebrating 16 years of Samantha Jones, our Queen of Finance.

Sam makes sure everyone gets paid, the ATO stays happy… and fills the office with fear over printing in colour.

For 16 years, Sam has been the calm, steady force behind the scenes, keeping our numbers tight, our contractors looked after, and keeps the tea and coffee flowing for all of us in the office.

Sam is loved by the team and known for her patience, she has had practise whilst she waits for her beloved dockers to get themselves a premiership. This sets her in good stead as she sits next to Carla in the office.

Sam, we absolutely adore you. Thank you for everything you do, and for keeping us all in line.

We meet a lot of grads, and the kids of our clients and candidates, who are just trying to get started in their careers.

And one thing comes up again and again…
they just need someone to give them a chance.

How many of us got our very first job because someone gave us a leg up?

A conversation.
A connection.
A friend of a parent who said, “give them a go.”

Most careers don’t start with a perfect CV. They start with someone opening a door.
Right now, we’re seeing more young people struggling to get that first break. Not because they lack potential, but because they lack access.

So here’s something simple, but powerful.
Encourage your kids to talk to your network.
Encourage them to ask questions.
Encourage them to show up, even if they’re not sure what they want yet.
Because networking isn’t just for seasoned professionals.
It’s where confidence is built, curiosity grows, and opportunities begin.

At Sense Recruitment, we see it every day, potential is everywhere, but opportunity still often comes through people.
So if you can give someone a leg up, do it.
It might be the start of everything for them.

Who gave you your first leg up, and would you do the same for someone else today?

Two years ago, Claire joined team Sense… and quite frankly, we can’t remember a time where we functioned without her.

Claire is the person who keeps everything moving. Nothing slips, nothing gets missed, and somehow, she always knows exactly what’s going on. Behind the scenes, Claire is a huge part of what keeps everything running smoothly. From resume preparation, compliance through to onboarding and references, she balances it all with incredible attention to detail and a level of care that really matters to both our clients and our candidates.

When putting this post together, I asked Claire what she’d like included… Her only request was: “please mention that I am funny, I like when people say I am funny.” So there you go Claire, as you wish.

A few fun facts about Claire…

Fact 1: A huge fan of resumes that are brimming with diagrams and graphs. The more complex, the better.
Fact 2: If you mention cricket or Formula One, clear your schedule, she will absolutely talk the hind legs off a donkey.
Fact 3: Quite possibly Australia’s biggest Coldplay fan. Chris Martin is a featured in almost as many pictures at her desk as her family.

Claire, thank you for everything you bring to Sense, and the way you support the team does not go unnoticed.

Two years in, and we feel very lucky to have you.

Candidate Spotlight!

This week, we're working with a highly accomplished executive leader who brings end-to-end accountability across people, culture, governance and workforce performance within complex, multi-entity organisations. With some folks it is easy to shine a light on them.

They combine deep expertise in workforce strategy, industrial relations, employment compliance and organisational design with a strong commercial lens. Known for anticipating workforce and organisational risks before they escalate, they partner closely with executive teams to turn people insights into practical, commercially sound decisions that drive productivity and sustainable growth.

Their background spans senior leadership roles across operationally intensive, geographically dispersed environments, with experience across workforce solutions, training and services sectors.

Key strengths include workforce planning and structural transformation, industrial relations and compliance, governance frameworks and scalable operating models, and aligning workforce strategy to performance and cost outcomes.

They have a strong track record of delivering measurable impact, from reducing inefficiencies and operational risk, through to leading workforce redesign initiatives that improve accountability, capability and performance.
Now seeking a senior leadership role where workforce strategy, governance and operational performance intersect, including Chief People Officer, General Manager (People & Culture / Operations), or workforce transformation leadership roles.

If you’re looking for someone who can genuinely connect people strategy to business outcomes, this is a conversation worth having.

A CV rarely tells the full story.

Last week we met a technology leader who had worked on a major mining transformation program.
On paper the CV looked solid.

But the real story only came out in conversation.

They had stepped in during a crisis phase of the program when the original delivery model collapsed. Over 18 months they rebuilt the vendor structure, reset stakeholder expectations, and stabilised delivery across multiple sites.

None of this would have been visible though keywords in a resume or AI screening tools. Great candidates are discovered through experience, conversations, and judgements and getting in front of people.

Not just algorithms.

Honouring a contract term.

It’s the done thing. It’s the right thing.

And Perth is small… it remembers.

But in this current climate, high interest rates, rising cost of living, and only 3 months left on your current contract…

…then someone approaches you with a 12 month opportunity.

What do you do?

Stay loyal and see it through? Or start looking ahead and secure what’s next?

It’s not as black and white as it once was.

We’re seeing more people quietly weighing this up.

Not out of disloyalty, but out of responsibility, to themselves, their families, and their future.

Because sometimes the hardest decisions sit right between doing the right thing… and doing the practical thing.

What would you do?

JOB OF THE WEEK!!

Be the person who helps a business navigate change, not just deliver it.

We're currently partnering with a client who is in the middle of a really interesting period of transformation, and they’re looking for a Change Manager who genuinely puts people at the centre of everything they do.

This isn’t just about rolling out a new system. The business is moving from OpenText to SharePoint as part of a broader shift in how teams work, collaborate and manage information. There’s a lot happening across the organisation, so this role is about helping people navigate change in a practical, grounded way, not just delivering comms and training.

They need someone who can build trust, engage stakeholders at all levels and bring people on the journey so that change actually sticks.

If you enjoy being close to the business, influencing how change is experienced and working in an environment where things are evolving, this could be just what you're looking for.
