Temporary hiring is becoming harder to ignore.

It is where workload pressure shows up first.

And in South Australia, it may be one of the clearest signals of where employer confidence is holding, shifting, or slowing.

On The Property Edge, Peta Seaman, Managing Director at Edge Recruitment, was joined by Taryn Widdows, Principal Consultant for Temporary Staffing at Edge Recruitment, to discuss what temporary hiring is revealing about the current South Australian job market.

As Taryn put it, “Hiring is focused more on a long-term fit rather than a quick hire.”

For employers, that matters. It suggests demand is still there, but decision-making is more measured. Businesses are moving, but they are being more deliberate about where they commit.

Employers are still hiring steadily, but with more caution. Recruitment decisions are taking longer, with many businesses using temporary roles to cover leave, backfills, internal movement, project work, and temp-to-perm opportunities.

So what should employers be watching?
• Temporary hiring can show where teams are under pressure before permanent headcount is approved.
• Slower recruitment processes may point to caution, not a lack of demand.
• Temp-to-perm roles can give employers flexibility while still building long-term capability.

For employers planning workforce needs in South Australia, this is a practical market signal worth paying attention to.

Adelaide’s property boom is not just creating more transactions.

It is putting real pressure on hiring.

As development activity, housing demand and investment continue to flow through South Australia’s property sector, employers are competing for the same skilled people across property management, asset management, maintenance, tenancy, development and housing roles.

That creates a few practical issues fast:
• salary expectations lift
• vacancies stay open longer
• existing teams carry more workload
• employers with rigid criteria miss good people

The market is still candidate-driven, but the strongest hiring response is not simply paying more.

Our latest article looks at what Adelaide’s property boom is really doing to hiring activity, and what employers should be thinking about before the next vacancy becomes urgent.

Talent shortages don't disappear when markets slow down.

They shift.

And in Adelaide's property sector, growth is creating even more pressure on already stretched talent pipelines.

Peta Seaman, Managing Director at Edge Recruitment, spoke with Simone Christensen, Human Resources Business Partner at Unity Housing Company, about what Adelaide's property boom means for employers, workforce planning, and the competition for talent across the sector.

As Simone put it, “We need more people, there is less people.” That pressure is forcing employers to think beyond the usual hiring channels.

One theme stood out: organisations can no longer rely on established talent pools to meet demand.

So what should employers be paying attention to?
• Retention becomes more critical as private sector competition drives salaries higher.
• Long-term talent pipelines matter more than short-term hiring activity.
• Employers willing to hire for attitude and capability, then invest in upskilling, will have a wider talent pool to draw from.

For employers navigating growth, skills shortages, and increasing competition for talent, this is a conversation worth watching.

Starting a career in property and real estate can feel unclear without the right industry guidance.

Last week, Edge Recruitment attended the Career Expo Day at Thebarton Senior College to speak with students about career pathways across South Australia’s property and real estate sector.

As Adelaide’s leading recruitment agency, Edge Recruitment works closely with property and real estate employers across SA, giving students a practical view of how the market works and where the opportunities are.

It was a valuable chance to connect with the next generation of talent and give students clearer direction on what a future in property and real estate could look like.

“Far above what I’ve experienced with many other recruitment agencies.”

Great feedback from one candidate describing their experience with Edge Recruitment.

Led by Kelly Armstrong, the team delivered exactly what candidates should expect from a strong recruitment partner: clear communication, consistent follow-up, honest support, and genuine respect throughout the process.

"Kelly did an amazing job throughout the process and was efficient with matching my knowledge and skills with a suitable role. Would recommend their services."

Here are a first few snaps from last week’s Women in Property Morning Tea.

Now in its 21st year, Edge Recruitment’s annual event once again brought together professionals from across the property and real estate industry for a morning of connection, conversation, and support for an important cause.

As part of our ongoing support for Cancer Council SA, a portion of every ticket sold was donated to help fund vital cancer research.

A special thank you to our guest speaker, Sadie Goddard-Wrighton, dedicated volunteer, health and wellness coach, and Ambassador with Cancer Council SA, for sharing her time and story with us.

Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make the morning such a meaningful success. We look forward to doing it again next year.

South Australia’s hiring market is showing signs of resilience.

SEEK’s latest Employment Report shows national job ads fell 0.4% month-on-month in March, while South Australian job ads remained flat and were only slightly down year-on-year at -0.1%.

For employers and candidates in the property sector, this points to a market that is more measured than booming, but not sharply declining.
