Successful recruitment goes beyond filling a vacancy. The strongest outcomes come from understanding both a business's needs and candidates' motivations, strengths, and aspirations.

Here’s what Amish Radia, a client, shared about working with Kelvin Murphy, Senior Manager at Robert Walters:

"He does his homework, understanding the role, organisational culture, and advising organisations, while also taking the time to understand candidates’ aspirations and personalities. This is why he’s so successful in matching the right candidate to the best-fit organisation."

Strong hiring decisions are built on understanding people, not just job descriptions.

Retention starts long before a resignation letter lands on your desk.

Mid-year reviews provide one of the best opportunities to understand whether your remuneration strategy remains aligned to market expectations.

Too often, salary conversations happen only when an employee receives an external offer. By then, the conversation is reactive rather than strategic.

As organisations review performance, workforce plans and hiring priorities for the second half of 2026, there are a few important questions worth asking:

• Are your salaries still competitive in today's market?
• Are high performers being recognised appropriately?
• Are pay decisions supported by objective market data?
• Could salary misalignment create retention risks later this year?

The strongest retention strategies combine performance recognition with clear, data-driven remuneration conversations.

The Robert Walters Salary Guide 2026 provides current salary benchmarks to help organisations approach those discussions with confidence.

Our recent poll found that more than two-thirds of respondents believe flexible working has a significant impact on reducing environmental impact, highlighting how sustainability conversations are increasingly extending beyond operations and into broader workforce strategy.

As hybrid and remote working models continue to evolve, organisations are looking more closely at how workplace decisions influence everything from commuting patterns and office energy usage to employee expectations around sustainable ways of working.

What’s interesting is that sustainability is becoming more closely connected to the employee experience itself. Flexible working is no longer viewed solely through the lens of productivity or work-life balance, but also through how organisations approach long-term environmental and social responsibility.

The findings also reflect a broader shift in how businesses define workplace sustainability, with growing attention on the role workforce strategy can play alongside traditional ESG initiatives.

Leadership in 2026 is coming under greater scrutiny across workplaces, but not always in the areas many organisations expect.

More than half of professionals say they pay closest attention to how leaders handle performance management, conflict resolution, and organisational change. Around 30% are focused on how leaders respond to burnout, workload pressures, and resourcing challenges, while pay decisions (13%) and AI use (4%) rank significantly lower.

The signal is clear: employees are increasingly evaluating leaders not just on outcomes, but on how decisions are made and communicated.

There is also growing pressure on leaders themselves. More than three-quarters of managers say their decisions are being more closely monitored, 39% report higher stress levels, and 37% say it has already changed how they lead and communicate.

As workplace expectations evolve, leadership is becoming less about authority and more about transparency, trust, and communication.
