Darumbal TUMRA community day 🌊😊

More than 100 people gathered in Emu Park today to celebrate the Darumbal People's traditional marine resource agreement (TUMRA) on the Great Barrier Reef.

The Darumbal People have the largest TUMRA on the Great Barrier Reef, covering 36,606 square kilometres of sea country.

The agreement, which came into place in 2021, means Darumbal People can manage their own resources based on cultural lore and science. It also opens up business and career opportunities.

Elder Uncle Bill Mann is a member of the TUMRA working group and spoke at the event.

He was one of the first Darumbal sea rangers more than 25 years ago and said he was proud of the young people coming through who are becoming rangers.

"I've got a lot of knowledge I can pass on to some of those young people. I've covered all of this area from one end to the other," Uncle Bill said.
