DesignSingapore The DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) is the national agency that promotes design. Our work focuses on three areas. www.designsingapore.org

DesignSingapore Council’s (Dsg) vision is for Singapore to be an innovation-driven economy and a loveable city through design by 2025. As the national agency that promotes design, our mission is to develop the design sector, help Singapore use design for innovation and growth, and make life better in this UNESCO Creative City of Design. First, we help organisations and enterprises use design as a

strategy for business growth; and for excellent delivery of public services. Second, we nurture industry-ready talents skilled in design and innovation; and engender a design-minded workforce for the future economy. Third, we advance the Singapore brand through raising design appreciation on home-ground; helping local design talents and firms go international, and making emotional connections with people across the world. The Dsg is a subsidiary of the Singapore Economic Development Board. Singapore was designated UNESCO Creative City of Design in December 2015. The designation supports Singapore’s development of a creative culture and eco-system that integrates design and creativity with everyday life. It also expands Singapore’s opportunity to collaborate with cities from the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). The City of Design Office is sited with Dsg which coordinates and implements programmes that respond to UCCN’s mission.

Come see design in a new light at i Light Singapore 2026! ✨

Part of this year’s festival, i Light Future 2026, presented by DesignSingapore Council (Dsg), is a new mentorship programme that supports and spotlights emerging creatives. Guided by Lead Mentor Craig Neo of digital design studio A&C Atelier, this inaugural edition features two installations by young Singaporean designers bringing to life the festival’s theme of “Movement”:

💡Market Cycles by Tan Mei Yee and Ng Choon Wee
An illuminated architectural installation built from repurposed wet market crates that reconsiders the overlooked systems and objects that shape everyday life.

💡 Steps by Nawal Bte Azhar
Intersecting illuminated frames form seemingly impossible staircases that shift in perspective as visitors move around them.

This installation is co-presented by Aedas.

In line with the DESIGN 2035 Masterplan, the programme reflects Dsg’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of design talent.

"Designers are becoming irrelevant.”

In an era of AI and automation, that’s the fear. The anxiety over design craft and designers’ jobs is hard to ignore.

Happily, the reality on the ground tells a different story.

So, what makes design a valuable mindset and skillset?

The hustle is real.

Boutique firms and solo operations are the backbone of Singapore design. While being small means being nimble and agile, it can also mean constantly being stretched.

High-touch craft, but limited budgets. Creative freedom, but uncertain cashflows.

So, can small be mighty?

The best designs begin not with answers, but with questions; as did the DESIGN 2035 Masterplan.

We asked designers what keeps them up at night. We asked businesses how design is valued. We asked everyday Singaporeans what they think Singapore design stands for. And from those answers, our roadmap takes shape.

Rather than a static blueprint, this plan evolves in tandem with the world around us. It’s a vision for a liveable, loveable, and ultimately limitless Singapore – built by many, belonging to all.

As we set out to imagine what the next 10 years of Singapore design could look like, we knew it had to be a collective effort. We are deeply grateful to the 6,000 participants from the design community who stepped forward to help.

The DESIGN 2035 Masterplan belongs to us all. It is a shared framework for the decade ahead, charting how design can sharpen our economic edge, strengthen our social resilience, and transform how we live.

It is an invitation to imagine what Singapore can be when we design with intention, and courage.

Here’s to a liveable, loveable, and limitless Singapore!
