The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) has entered the Unhealthy range.
Employers are reminded to follow the Ministry of Manpower’s haze guidelines and tripartite advisories at mom.gov.sg/haze, and take the necessary measures to minimise or mitigate the impact of haze on workers.
When the 24-hour PSI is in the Unhealthy range, workplaces should:
▪️ Reduce the duration of prolonged or strenuous work for healthy employees.
▪️ Minimise prolonged or strenuous outdoor work for vulnerable workers, especially the elderly and pregnant women.
▪️ Avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor work for workers with chronic heart and/or lung conditions.
▪️ Use mechanical aids where possible, implement job rotation, schedule indoor rest breaks and ensure adequate hydration.
▪️ Provide suitable protective equipment based on the pollutants present in the work environment.
Platform operators and platform workers should also take appropriate precautions during periods of haze. Platform operators should send timely advisories reminding platform workers to rest and stay hydrated, and should not penalise them for taking longer to complete jobs during severe haze.
Platform workers should take care of their well-being, take adequate breaks and, where possible, avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity when air quality is in the unhealthy range.
Employers and dormitory operators should also look out for the well-being of migrant workers during periods of haze. In dormitories, fans should remain on throughout the day to ensure adequate ventilation. Doors and windows should be kept closed when outdoor air quality is poor.
