There are still places available for our Project Management for Marine Survey course with S4, taking place in Birmingham next week, from 22–24 September.

The course has been developed for experienced Project Managers and senior offshore personnel, including Party Chiefs who are looking to progress into Project Management or Project Surveying roles. It takes the experience people have built offshore and develops their understanding of the wider responsibilities involved in managing a marine survey project.

Across three days, participants will work through tendering and commercial practices, vessel, equipment and personnel resourcing, client meetings and negotiations, contractual considerations, HIRA and risk management, project procedures and task plans, resource tracking, financial reporting, communication protocols and project washups.

The course is led by Arron Burrows of S4, who has 38 years of experience across offshore survey and marine geoscience and has delivered more than 90 industry courses. His experience covers offshore oil and gas, subsea inspection, ROV, hydrographic surveying, submarine cables, renewables and subsea construction.

The course runs at Somerset House, 37 Temple Street, Birmingham, from 22–24 September 2026. The cost is £899 per person, including lunch and refreshments each day, and participants receive an attendance certificate on completion.

Some of the Elevate Offshore team attended the IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) Regional Meeting in Singapore last week, spending the day with colleagues from across the offshore sector and discussing some of the issues shaping the industry.

The IMCA NextGen Network is helping younger people enter the industry by giving them access to experienced professionals and the knowledge they need to develop careers offshore. Building that experience takes time, and we are keen to support creating opportunities for the next generation to learn directly from people who have spent years in the industry.

Florie Mancel from Society for Underwater Technology - SUT - Singapore also spoke about encouraging more people to consider careers offshore. There are good opportunities available across survey, ROV, subsea and the wider marine sector, and as an industry we can do more to give people a clear understanding of the careers available to them.

There were also some interesting discussions around new technology and where the offshore sector is heading.

Thank you to IMCA for bringing everyone together and giving the team plenty to discuss afterwards.

There’s a big difference between working on a marine survey project and being responsible for managing one.

Offshore, your focus is naturally on delivering the work in front of you. Move into Project Management, and suddenly you’re responsible for a much wider picture.

The decisions made before mobilisation. Making sure the right people, vessels and equipment are in place. Managing the client relationship. Keeping an eye on risk, costs and reporting. Maintaining communication between the offshore team, subcontractors, client and colleagues onshore.

That broader responsibility is exactly what we’ll be getting into during our three-day Project Management for Marine Survey course with S4 this September.

We're heading to Oil And Gas Asia (Official) (OGA) this week, and we’re looking forward to a couple of busy days catching up with people across the industry.

With plenty happening across the organisation and a growing amount of work across Asia Pacific, it’s a good time to get together with clients, contractors and industry friends in person. There are only so many conversations you can have through a screen before a coffee and a proper catch-up start sounding like a much better idea.

Global subsea activity means global personnel requirements.

Recent industry reports show active and upcoming subsea work across Indonesia, the Caribbean, Brazil, Egypt, Angola, Saudi Arabia and the UK, covering production systems, drill support, decommissioning, construction, diving and offshore wind.

For personnel working across survey, ROV, inspection and project disciplines, that geographical spread continues to create opportunities across a wide range of projects. It also means contractors need to be ready when requirements arise, with current certifications, accurate availability and the right experience clearly documented.

For our clients, maintaining access to an international pool of experienced offshore personnel is equally important. Projects can require teams to mobilise across borders at relatively short notice, with travel, compliance and documentation all needing careful coordination.

Your first trip offshore is one you'll remember for a long time. There's plenty to take in, from safety briefings and vessel inductions to finding your cabin and working alongside people you've only just met. It can feel like a lot, but everyone on board has been the new person at some point.

That's exactly why we spoke to members of the Elevate Offshore team about their own first trips. They shared the lessons they learned, the mistakes they'd rather laugh about now, and the advice they wish someone had given them before they stepped onto a vessel for the first time. A strong offshore survey CV makes everyone's job easier. It helps recruiters understand your experience quickly and gives hiring managers confidence that you have the skills they're looking for before the interview even begins.

At Elevate Offshore, we review CVs every day. The best ones are clear, accurate and up to date. They show relevant project experience, technical skills, software proficiency and current certifications without burying the important details under pages of unnecessary information. A CV is there to open the door, not tell your entire life story.

We've also seen plenty of good candidates miss opportunities because key information was missing or out of date. It can be something as simple as an expired certificate, unclear project dates or software experience that never made it onto the page. Small details have a habit of creating big questions.

The successful production of green hydrogen on an operational North Sea platform is an interesting development for the offshore industry.

The PosHYdon pilot, operating on Eni Energy Netherlands' Q13a-A platform in the Dutch North Sea, is the first project to successfully combine offshore wind power, hydrogen production and natural gas operations on a live offshore installation. Using electricity generated by offshore wind, seawater is converted into demineralised water before hydrogen is produced through electrolysis, all while the platform continues normal gas production.

While it is still an early-stage pilot, it demonstrates that existing offshore infrastructure could play a wider role as the energy sector continues to develop.

Repurposing platforms has the potential to extend the working life of valuable assets while creating opportunities for engineering, inspection, integrity management and offshore construction. It also reinforces the value of the specialist skills that already exist across the sector, including survey, ROV, inspection and project personnel.

As more projects combine traditional offshore operations with newer energy technologies, experience gained across multiple sectors becomes increasingly valuable. The expertise built over decades in the North Sea has the potential to support a much broader range of offshore projects than many people realise.

It will be interesting to see where projects like this lead over the next few years.
