Hiring a helper? Make sure you’re fully protected and compliant.
Here’s your 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭-𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 guide:
📌 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 — 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝑶𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍
MOM requires all employers to purchase maid insurance before your helper arrives.
📌 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑪𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆: 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅
Min. S$60,000/year for inpatient care and day surgery.
This applies to both new and renewed policies.
Policies now include communicable diseases such as COVID-19, dengue, and TB, with standardised exclusions, age-based premiums, and direct hospital billing
📌 𝑪𝒐-𝑷𝒂𝒚𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏
For medical bills over S$15,000: insurers pay 75%, you pay 25% - 𝑢𝑛𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑜𝑝𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑓𝑢𝑙𝑙 𝑐𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑎𝑡 𝑎 ℎ𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑢𝑚.|
📌 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒄𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓
You’ll need at least S$60,000/year coverage for sudden accidents that result in permanent disability or death - payable to your helper or their beneficiaries.
📌 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑩𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕
Domestic helpers need a S$5,000 security bond. Many insurers cover this as part of the package.
Interested in more than just the basics? Look for these value-added perks 👇
✅ Wage compensation during hospitalisation
✅ Repatriation or replacement maid expenses in case of accident, illness, or death
✅ Third-party liability protection if your helper causes accidental damage or injury
✅ Outpatient & dental coverage or discounts at partner clinics
📆 𝑫𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔
Most policies run for 14 or 26 months - the extra 2 months provide a buffer beyond her work permit expiry. A 26-month plan is often more cost-effective for a 2-year contract.
🔍 Bottom Line: Maid insurance isn’t just legal compliance, it’s smart protection. The right policy gives you peace of mind, protects your helper, and shields you from unexpected costs.
