To better protect employers from large medical bills incurred by their foreign employees, the mandatory medical insurance for work permit (including migrant domestic workers) and S Pass holders will be enhanced.
For policies that take effect on or after 1 July 2023, employers will be able to make claims up to $60,000, with co-payment for employers and insurers above the first $15,000.
The second phase of the enhancement applies to policies that take effect on or after 1 July 2025. It will include standardised exclusion clauses, age-differentiated premiums and direct reimbursement to hospitals upon the admissibility of claims.
MOM considered feedback from employer groups, insurers, and industry partners for this phased approach, which gives time for both employers and insurers to adjust to the changes. With many insurers expressing interest to offer enhanced medical insurance products, employers will have a range of insurers to choose from.
