📢 Singapore Work Permit Policy Update: Maximum Employment Age to Increase from 1 July 2026

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has announced that Singapore's local retirement age will be raised to 64 years old from 1 July 2026.
-
As the maximum employment age for Work Permit holders is aligned with the local retirement age, the following changes will take effect:
-
✔ Existing Work Permit holders: Employment age increases from 63 → 64
✔ New Work Permit applicants: Age limit increases from 61 → 62
-
This move offers employers greater flexibility in retaining experienced workers and strengthening workforce continuity.

📢 Singapore Employers: Local Qualifying Salary (LQS) Update Effective 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, the Local Qualifying Salary (LQS) will increase from S$1,600 to S$1,800.
-
This change may impact your organization's Work Permit and S Pass quota calculations.
-
From 1 July 2026:
-
✅ Employees earning S$1,800 and above will be counted as 1 local employee.
-
✅ Employees earning S$900 to below S$1,800 will be counted as 0.5 local employee.
-
✅ Employees earning below S$900 will not be counted towards the local workforce requirement.
-
Now is a good time to:
✔️ Review local employee salaries
✔️ Ensure timely CPF submissions
✔️ Check quota eligibility and workforce plans

"Hiring Foreign Talent In Singapore Just Got More Expensive."

Starting from 2027:

📈 Employment Pass (EP) qualifying salary will increase from S$5,600 to S$6,000.

📈 For the financial services sector, the qualifying salary will increase from S$6,200 to S$6,600.

📈 S Pass qualifying salary will increase from S$3,300 to S$3,600.

📈 The Local Qualifying Salary (LQS) will also increase from S$1,600 to S$1,800 from July 2026.

The qualifying salaries for older Employment Pass and S Pass applicants will rise in tandem.
