With some beautiful spring weather across Aotearoa lately, both our Auckland and Wellington teams made the most of it with a chance to get together, enjoy some sunshine and celebrate a great September.

Back in Auckland, we also celebrated our September and October birthdays with cake on the deck for all three Rachels and Sarah.

A chance to thank the team for another great month and celebrate being SEEK Awards finalists again across three categories - a pretty good reason to get together!

Only a third of workers say their benefits are really easy to understand and use.

You can have a great benefits offering, but if people don’t know what’s available, how to use it or where to find it, it’s easy for that value to get lost.

Do your employees actually know what their benefits are worth?
67% told us their employer has never spelt out the value of theirs.

In the current economic climate, sustained continual salary increases can be difficult - but many are already offering genuinely valuable extras around it: covering health insurance premiums, extra leave, paid study, whatever it might be.

If nobody ever spells out what that's actually worth, it carries little weight when someone's considering their next career move.

Being upfront about the value of the full package - not just the salary- is one of the simplest things you can do for attraction and retention when budgets are tight.

A few weeks ago, Tony, Chelsea and Charly headed to AUT to run a workshop for neurodivergent students around career choices, CVs, cover letters and interviews.

A big focus was helping students understand their strengths and how to translate those into a CV that clearly shows future employers what they can bring.

One of the students told us the session helped them get their CV and cover letter to a point where they felt confident, and gave them a new perspective on how to present themselves to employers.

It’s always a great feeling to be able to share what we see in the recruitment world and help people who are just starting out.

Thanks Auckland University of Technology for having us again!

Contractors can make a huge impact - A big congratulations to Erin, who has been named our latest Cultivate Recruitment Contractor of the Quarter.

Erin’s story is a great example of the value contractors can bring when organisations need to plug a gap, cover leave, support a project or period of change, or bring in specialist skills when they’re needed most.

Erin joined ASB through Cultivate as a Senior HR Business Partner contractor, stepping in to support the team through a period of significant activity and change. Her manager highlighted her ability to build trusted relationships, navigate complexity and provide thoughtful, practical advice - all while balancing the needs of both people and the business.

And perhaps the best recognition of all? Following a competitive recruitment process, Erin has now been appointed permanently in her role!
