Today, our Employment Pathways team, Michelle Thomson and Ray Ninnes, attended Get Seen, Get Connected, Meet the Buyer at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Hosted by the Queensland Government as part of Indigenous Business Month, the event brought together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses, buyers and industry representatives.

For IBFF, building relationships with businesses and industry is an important part of helping young people explore employment opportunities and access support as they transition into work.

IAIM was honoured to be selected to participate in Queensland’s Indigenous Business Month, providing an opportunity to share our stories, experiences and knowledge with our mob and the wider community.
Through this platform, IAIM continues to create meaningful partnerships, strengthen relationships and build connections with Indigenous people, organisations and communities.

Our participation highlights the importance of cultural connection, employment opportunities and creating pathways that empower our people. By sharing our experiences and working collaboratively, we aim to strengthen communities, promote greater cultural understanding and support positive outcomes for future generations.

Indigenous Business Month provides an important opportunity to recognise the contribution of Indigenous businesses and the impact they have in creating stronger, more connected and empowered communities.

And a big thank you to Dwatsipm for supporting IAIM and providing us with the opportunity to share our story, showcase the work we do and highlight the importance of cultural connection, community and employment.

We truly value the support and recognition given to Indigenous businesses and the opportunities created to amplify our voices and celebrate the positive impact we are making within our communities.

These conversations are so important in creating stronger pathways, building meaningful relationships and opening up opportunities for Indigenous businesses to grow, connect and thrive.

On the 27th of May 1967, Australia made history through the 1967 Referendum — a moment that recognised the voices and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Before this time, First Nations people were excluded from being counted in the national census, and the Federal Government had limited power to make laws for Aboriginal people.

The referendum was created after many years of tireless advocacy and campaigning by Aboriginal leaders, communities, and supporters who fought for equality, justice, and recognition. Australians voted overwhelmingly in support, with more than 90% voting “Yes” — one of the highest “Yes” votes in the nation’s history.

The 1967 Referendum did not give Aboriginal people the right to vote, as many already had that right before 1967, but it became a powerful symbol of change, hope, and recognition.
It marked a significant step towards acknowledging First Nations peoples within Australia’s laws and history.

Today, we remember the strength, resilience, and determination of the old people and leaders who stood up for future generations. Their fight helped pave the way for continued truth-telling, reconciliation, and recognition across this country now called Australia 🖤💛❤️

Today, on National Sorry Day, we stand in remembrance of the old people, the survivors, and the children of the Stolen Generations.

We honour the strength of our Elders who carried pain that was never theirs to bear, yet still carried culture, love, language, and spirit for the generations to come.

We remember the children taken from their families, communities, and Country, and we acknowledge the grief that still lives within many hearts today.

To our old people — we see you, we hear you, and we thank you. Your resilience, wisdom, and survival continue to guide our people forward.
May we always walk with truth, healing, respect, and remembrance.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land ✊🏾🖤💛❤️✊🏾
