Dr. Gopal Kumar (Mechanical Engineer at Techenomics) explains the best oil sampling practices ✅

Contamination on the sampling pump can impact oil analysis results.

To avoid contamination:

1. Cut the pump tube
2. Unscrew the top section of the pump
3. Remove the tube from the bottom

This way you avoid contamination and ensure oil analysis results are accurate 🎯

Expertise shared so operators can do it themselves...
The remit of Techenomics is to ensure equipment operators get maximum benefit from their lubricants in order to minimise equipment downtime and optimise productivity.

The fully integrated service, which incorporates rapid turnaround times, is not restricted to Techenomics’ laboratory network, it also includes managing asset health on-site.

Whether it be equipment at a mine site, processing facility, industrial operation, power station or in a transport situation, the company’s total fluid management services are aimed at benefiting clients.

This is always achieved using the company’s proven, independent methods.

While the service is carried out by expert, fully trained staff, using state-of-the-art equipment and generally in Techenomics’ accredited laboratories, it also incorporates on-site training.

Techenomics CEO Chris Adsett said this ensured equipment operators at mines or other sites, especially those in remote locations, can carry out their own sampling and maintenance programs.

What does oil analysis actually find? 🤔 Here's a deep dive into the most important findings:

1. Wear Metals 📌

These are tiny particles made up of metals such as iron, nickel and aluminium. Different metals help identify where problems may be developing.

2. Viscosity 🔬

Viscosity is a lubricants resistance to flow. This can either increase or decrease depending on a problem that is occurring such as coolant ingress or fuel dilution. A significant change in viscosity may result in reduced lubrication and increased wear.

3. Contaminants 🔍

Contaminants can include dirt and dust, indicated by finding silicone and sodium, and coolant, indicated by potassium. These contaminants are abrasive causing wear to machinery whilst reducing lubricant effectiveness.

Oil analysis can identify these findings early, helping maintenance teams monitor trends and extend equipment life.
