EXHIBITION CLOSING THIS SATURDAY 24 OCTOBER | HOW WILL THEY KNOW IT’S ME | ZOE BRAND
Plan your visit to see the exhibition before it closes on Saturday 24 October. The Craft + Design Canberra Gallery is open from Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 4pm.
HOW WILL THEY KNOW IT'S ME is a new exhibition by artist Zoe Brand that explores the performative nature of jewellery as a device for communication. Using jewellery archetypes, ready mades and text, Zoe collects mundane and throwaway statements from casual conversation, examining their ambiguity and transforming them into objects to be worn.
For this exhibition, Zoe draws on homemade banners, sporting pennants, flags and quilts, considering both their forms and cultural and social contexts. These references inform a new series of SOFT TEXT works, developed through quilting techniques and screen printed text. The large scale works are designed to be worn by multiple people, either as a single piece with multiple points of attachment or as separate pieces worn collectively.
Through these works, Zoe continues to explore the ambiguity and slippages of language, transforming everyday statements into physical, wearable objects. By subverting familiar forms and phrasing, HOW WILL THEY KNOW IT'S ME asks how jewellery can communicate, and what happens to meaning when words move from casual conversation onto the body and into public space.

CALLING ALL AUSTRALIAN MAKERS AND DESIGNERS | Complete the survey today before it closes on 2 October.
Australian craft & design practitioners: your experience matters.
We’re building a national picture of craft and design practice in Australia — and we need your voice.
This survey is an ADC Legacy Project, funded by Australian Design Centre in collaboration with the Australian Craft and Design Centres (ACDC Network), NAVA and Craft Australia.
The data collected will help sector organisations advocate for practitioners and make a stronger case for funding, opportunities, education, business support and policy change.
As ADC closes its doors after six decades of supporting Australian craft and design, this research is one part of the legacy we’re leaving behind: useful evidence that can help the sector advocate for its future.
The survey takes 9–12 minutes and is completely anonymous.
If you’re an Australian craft or design practitioner, take the survey and help make sure your experiences are part of the picture.

MEET THE MEMBER | Phoebe Porter .porter | Accredited Professional Member of Craft + Design Canberra
For more than 25 years, Phoebe Porter has developed a distinctive practice spanning studio production, commissioned jewellery and the creation of ambitious new work for exhibition. Strongly influenced by Bauhaus and Constructivist principles, Phoebe’s work explores structure, balance, proportion and materiality. She seeks to reduce each piece to its essential elements, creating jewellery that is sculptural and contemporary while remaining closely connected to the traditions of gold and silversmithing.
Since Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Gold and Silversmithing) from ANU, Phoebe has exhibited across Australia as well as exhibitions in Japan, Germany, the UK and USA. Her work is highly collectable and is represented in public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Powerhouse Museum. Her awards include a Victorian Premier’s Design Mark, as well as grants from Creative Australia, Arts Victoria, and Arts ACT.
In 2026, Phoebe Porter will be a part of the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival with her exhibition Raw and Refined in the Departures Lounge at Canberra Airport from 5 to 15 November. As part of the exhibition, there will be an artist talk with Phoebe Porter in conversation with Kevin Murray on from 5:30pm on Thursday 12 November. Phoebe will also be an Undercurrent Design Market Stallholder at Ainslie Arts Centre from 13 to 15 November. ARE YOU OUR NEXT TREASURER? | Applications close 5pm Friday 23 October.
Craft + Design Canberra is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Management.
The Treasurer holds specific responsibility for the financial health of the organisation, working closely with the Chair, the CEO and Artistic Director, and our accounting firm. The role suits someone who enjoys applying financial expertise in a creative setting, and who finds satisfaction in translating numbers into decisions that a board of artists, designers and community members can act on with confidence.
You will join a collegial and engaged board at a busy and expansive time for the organisation, with the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival running from 5 to 15 November and a new strategic plan guiding our growth.
