Purpose of the group?
* encourage community
* to participate in interesting discussions
* fun activities
* mutual support.

Group rules will be established together. It however is important to emphasize that it is not a “dating site”!

The group will be facilitated by myself. As a Social Worker I am well equipped in the method of Group Work to ensure growth, support and the wellness of each group member.

This need has been expressed by individuals I journey with.
The sessions will be once a week via Zoom.

Be authentic. Be the best YOU that you can be

People pleasing, living your life in a manner that is causing exhaustion because of all the “masks” you are wearing, keeping up with the perceived expectations of others, only aggravate self-alienation and compromise your mental health and wellbeing.

As E. E. Cummings said:” It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are. “

Maybe now is a good time to turn inside, reflect and do the inner work necessary to be authentic, kind and graceful towards yourself.

How many times have I come across teams where tolerating poor performance is viewed as the nice thing to do, ignoring the huge cost to all involved.
Tolerating poor performance creates a morale death spiral that takes huge effort to reverse.
Why do you do it?

1. Guilt- You worry you haven’t done enough to develop and support the poor performer.
2. Morale – You worry that the possible negativity of focussing on the poor performance of one individual might undermine your efforts to build great morale/insecurity.
3. Saving Face – You appointed the poor performer.
4. Confidence – You’re scared. You’re not sure how to approach the situation or want to avoid conflict.

If you’ve got an underperformer on your team, do all you can to help and record every effort. And if It’s time to let them move on, help them to do that gracefully.

Over-Managing and Under-Leading

Over the years I've come to realize that, in our highly pressurized work environments (daily priorities, urgent activity lists and volatile markets) it is often much easier to gravitate toward management activities than it is leadership.

We need both (management and leadership)!

Some Consequences of Over-Managing:

Disempowerment, reduced employee productivity, increased stress, Increased people turnover, negative morale (frustration and resentment).

This article about Open Plan Offices struck a chord with me (the most beautiful). My own experience, working in an open office setup for 3 years, was that it is distracting, uncomfortable, spreads germs, and is simply too quiet when the boss was there.

A new study from Harvard reveals that open plan offices decrease rather than increase face-to-face collaboration.
