Housekeeper / Caregiver Needed for a caring family based in Sheffield Beach, KZN ✨
A housekeeper/caregiver is required with specific focus on companionship and care for a 71 year old gentleman with early onset dementia.
The ideal candidate will be happy to initially focus on housekeeping and building a relationship with the individual. As caring responsibilities become more onerous the extent of the
housekeeping responsibilities will be adjusted accordingly.
Caregiver Job Responsibilities:
• Assistance with activities of daily living as and when it becomes necessary, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from activities
• Assistance with meals according to the individual’s needs
• Allows and encourages individual to do as much of their own care as possible
• Initiates and participates in leisure activities
• Encourages mentally stimulating activities
• Drives individual as required
• Maintains individual’s records daily in a timely manner, as required, including medication dispensed, leisure activities, incidents and observations (including health, physical, behavioural and
emotional condition)
• Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment
• Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly and positively to requests for assistance
Housekeeping Responsibilities:
• Performs general housekeeping; cleaning bedrooms, living spaces, bathrooms, kitchen, and other areas
• Prepares meals following preplanned menus
• Encourages individual to eat a proper diet and take adequate fluids while respecting the individual’s right to free choice and records and reports changes in individual’s eating habits if required
Work Hours and Benefits:
• Live-in position - superior accommodation and meals will be provided.
• 10 hour day – 8H00 to 18H00, Monday to Friday – 50 hour week
• During working hours Tea and Meals may be taken when the individual, is appropriately settled, doing an activity or sleeping.
• Meals will be provided – as per individual’s meal plan
• Annual Leave: 15 working days per annum
• Sick Leave: 30 days per 36 month sick leave cycle
Caregiver Qualifications/Skills:
• Health promotion and maintenance
• Maintaining a safe, effective environment
• Attentive, cheerful bedside manner
• Promoting mental health
• Pain management
• Listening and interpreting information
• Have the physical ability and technique required to transfer, reposition, or lift individual (currently 80kgs), when required
Education, Certification and Courses:
• Matric or equivalent
• Good command of English Language, speaking, reading and writing
• Reputable Home-based Care Training Certificate.
• First Aid Certificate
• Elderly Care Course
• Minimum 5+ year(s) professional or personal experience supporting individuals with
disabilities, mental illnesses, or challenging behaviours
• Must have a valid driver’s license
