Know Your Rights: The CCMA Can Help 💚

If you’re a domestic worker and you’ve been unfairly dismissed, you don’t have to face it alone.

The CCMA (Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration) is a government body that provides a free process to help resolve workplace disputes.

Here’s what to do:

Step 1️⃣ Complete LRA Form 7.11 (referral form).
Step 2️⃣ Refer the dispute to the CCMA within 30 days of your dismissal.
Step 3️⃣ Make sure a copy of the referral is given to your employer.
Step 4️⃣ Attend conciliation, where a commissioner helps both sides try to reach an agreement.
Step 5️⃣ If there’s no agreement, the matter may proceed to arbitration, where the commissioner hears the evidence and makes a decision.

You do not need a lawyer to refer a matter to the CCMA, and the CCMA process is generally free for workers.
