What is the National Energy, Mining Careers Expo and Job Summit?
• The Expo is a platform for the youth, especially young learners in high schools, tertiary students and unemployed graduates, where they can interact with the professionals (in the industry), training providers, private employers and the government in the Mining and Energy sector to have a better understanding and through exposure a
bout the job opportunities in the industry.
• The National Energy, Mining Careers Expo and Job Summit to be co-hosted by the Dept. of Energy in Partnership with the Limpopo Economic Development and Tourism Department, supported by the Departments of Basic Education, Higher Education and Training, Provincially and Nationally.
• The expo will profile careers in the Energy and Mining industry to learners between Grades 10-12, unemployed graduates and educators.
• The Job Summit, to be held on the 29th of August 2014 provides a platform where decision makers from both public and private sectors engage in dialogue about job and placement opportunities, job enablers and will also unpack and address challenges related to jobs in the sector
• During the Job Summit, we will link the Job Seekers in the industry with the potential employers through the Industry On-line Portal.
• At the close of the Job Summit a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) will be officially signed by key industry employers committing the industry to improving labour practices and access to employment opportunities within the sector. Key outcomes of the summit will be captured and reviewed annually during the forthcoming Summits to gauge the progress.
• The expo will be taking place from 27th to 29th July 2014, Limpopo Province and opens daily from 9am to 5pm
• The expo will attract over 12, 000 learners country-wide.
• The theme is “Engineering the future of the youth into the Mining and Energy Industry”
• A series of Teacher Workshops will run parallel with the Expo to provide teachers with key information and important skills to inspire learners about the Energy and Mining industry and the opportunities it provides as a career with lot of opportunities.
• Teachers will be given a handbook providing them with all the relevant information about teaching the subject and educating learners about the sector
