Let's use a Caregiver as an example.

Many people write:

❌ Caregiver

And nothing else.

💡 But employers want to understand your actual experience.

👶 If you cared for children:

Include details such as:

✔ How many children you looked after
✔ Their ages
✔ Full-time or part-time care
✔ Any special needs, allergies, or medical conditions
✔ School runs and activities
✔ Meal preparation
✔ Homework assistance
✔ Bathing and bedtime routines

👵 If you cared for elderly clients:

Include details such as:

✔ How many clients you cared for
✔ Their ages
✔ Medical conditions or special needs
✔ Mobility assistance
✔ Medication reminders
✔ Personal care assistance
✔ Meal preparation
✔ Companionship and emotional support

Example:

👵 Caregiver

Provided daily care for an 82-year-old client

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people giving very little information about their work experience.

For example:

🚛 Truck Driver

Many people write:
❌ "Truck Driver"

And that's it.

💡 But employers want to know MORE.

A stronger description could include:

✔ Type of truck driven
✔ Type of trailers used
✔ Local or cross-border routes
✔ Provinces or countries travelled
✔ Commodities transported
✔ Years of experience
✔ Loading and offloading experience
✔ Vehicle inspections and paperwork

Example:

🚛 Truck Driver

Drove super-link and tanker combinations
Cross-border routes between South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia
Transported fuel, FMCG products and agricultural goods
Completed daily vehicle inspections and trip documentation

✨ The more relevant details you provide, the easier it is for an employer to see your experience and suitability for the job.

This doesn't only apply to drivers!
