ALPINE SCAFFOLDING IN GENADENDAL

Our team has just completed a Layher Allround scaffold on a historic church in Genadendal in the Overberg. The job covers full façade access along the main elevations, plus a stepped tower scaffold built to the full height of the bell tower.

Heritage buildings are rarely square or level, and this one needed careful planning around the tower's set-backs and the restoration work at its base. That's where a modular system like Layher earns its keep.

Alpine not only a Cape Town contractor. We mobilise crews, trucks and equipment to rural and outlying towns, and we deliver the same standard there that we do in the city.

Our new Hire & Sales and Supply & Install depot puts Alpine’s scaffolding, formwork and technical capability closer to contractors, developers and project teams across the Cape Winelands.

From Kwik-Stage, Layher and aluminium towers to formwork, access staircases and shutter ply, clients can hire, purchase or collect directly from our Paarl branch. For larger requirements, our teams can manage the complete scaffold package, from planning and supply through to er****on, inspection and dismantling.

The devil is in the detail. In scaffolding, the detail is what comes back to bite you when something goes wrong.

If you're the client, don't just ask when it goes up and what it costs. Before you accept handover, ask:

• Transverse bracing?
• Toeboards?
• Ladder access?
• Fully boarded platforms?
• Sufficient ties to the structure?
• Solid base?
• Correct public protection?

Any scaffolder worth appointing will answer every one of those on the spot.

A scaffolding quotation should tell you exactly what you’re paying for and how the work will be delivered.

Before signing off, check that the scope covers the essentials: scaffold design, supply, er****on and dismantling, hire periods, labour, transport, inspections, documentation and compliance with SANS 10085 and OHSACT.

Clear commercial assumptions matter too. Extension rates, additional hire charges and site requirements can have a real impact on the final project cost.
