Why recruitment?
"My family works in freight, and I was really keen to follow. But I never made it to placing containers, instead I ended up placing the people who place the containers, I approached a specialist recruiter, they made me a good offer and the bug bit. I never left recruitment".

Why the name Blue Oak?
"Richard and I were looking for a symbol of strength and integrity, which were the key characteristics that we wanted to represent in the freight recruitment industry. We considered the oak tree to be that symbol. The color blue just seemed to give it a modern touch .... plus all the other colors were taken by our competitors 😁 "

Outside of Work?
"I'm the same person at work as I am outside of it. I enjoy hard work in the garden as well as with my network of staff, I'm naturally introverted, but I laugh easily. I'm a wife, a mom and a business partner, and I love all three!"

Meet our Recruitment Consultant, Bernadine van Zijl

Bernadine got into recruitment, as most people, by accident. She spent a number of years in sales within the local and international travel industry and by chance, was offered a position in travel recruitment. Before long she moved into freight recruitment and discovered that she was really good in matching people with the right clients and found it personally rewarding.

Bernadine joined the Blue Oak team in 2022 and immediately took like a duck to water. She is a natural networker, finding the unfindable candidates for her clients with her “never give up” attitude. She has a professional voice on the phone, but she has a great sense of humor too!

Meet our Managing Director, Richard Raphael

After working in sales for a number of years, Richard took a leap of faith and started Blue Oak at the ripe age of 27 years old, equipped with just his experience, a computer and a phone. “I started this business because I really enjoy working with the freight industry and believe it to be full of opportunity for anyone willing to put in the time to learn.” Recognizing that there was still a need in the industry, 3 years later, Richard launched the first freight focused job portal, Fr8jobs.net, which sets out to service those companies who recruited their own staff directly. “Fr8jobs.net aims to be the go to place for C&F professionals and employers to meet.”

Richard still recruits for the industry with a focus on Management and Sales as well as growing and servicing the Fr8jobs.net portal. Apart from work Richard is a husband and father of 2 with a passion and love for theology, hiking and aviation.
