As the owners of a few internet cafes, we noticed an increasing number of job seekers looking for opportunities online but most of these young people became despondent as time went on. These capable and motivated youth were at a loss as to where to turn to because there were limited opportunities for the entry-level job seeker. What could be created to bridge the gap between employers and these high potential youth? In 2011, we converted our existing internet cafés into our first Lulaway Job Centres. Today, we run over 160 Job Centres in all nine provinces. Lulaway Job Centres act as employment hubs in communities across South Africa and not only provide hope and inspiration to local communities that often struggle with access to opportunities but also a user-friendly platform for candidates to access job opportunities close to where they live. Since then our Job Center network has expanded and now allows a job seeker to apply for jobs, create detailed profiles, complete basic assessments and receive a full color professional looking CV. Employers are then able to easily identify best suited candidates through our high tech Lulaway Portal, receive support from one of our trained recruiters or access a tailor-made business turnkey solution. We also realised that there are many parties that are keenly interested in providing support, in any form, financial, physical and even emotional to the South African youth. Yet, much of this support is underutilised due to lack of coordination and a fundamental miscommunication and trust between government, social funders, employers and the job seeker. In keeping with our mission we set out to become the trusted partner to all stake-holders. We do this by keeping to meticulous level of delivery in everything we do, if we say we can do it, we will do it or die trying.
