VACANCY: Technical Innovation Specialist
Reporting to the COO via the Marketing Manager
The incumbent will be expected to:-
• Liaise with new customers to uncover challenges of a technical nature
• Liaise with solution providers to understand the technology behind the proposed solutions
• Actively seek out challenges on a P2P or P2B basis
• Liaise with governmental departments either to understand funding mechanisms or to seek sources of funding
• Liaise with innovation enablers to find or solve challenges
• Liaise with tertiary institutions to seek out or develop solutions
• Work with solution providers - inter alia Gelvenor to develop solutions
• Validate solutions either in a laboratory or in the field
• Develop project plans for challenges
• Manage the P2P or P2B relationships for challenges
• Together with the Opin team, bring new technologies to market
• Sell these new technologies to new or existing customers
• Develop new markets for existing technologies
• Evolve existing technologies for existing markets
To perform these functions, incumbent will need to have:
• Matric with a pass in mathematics and science, and an aptitude for science.
• Additionally a tertiary degree in Textiles, Polymer Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Laboratory textile testing experience
• Be au fait with olefin, ester, amide and bast fibres
• Be au fait with textile manufacturing - woven and non woven
• Be au fait with chemical and physical finishing of textiles
• Be au fait with basic physics
• Be extroverted when measured on the MBTI.
• Be proficient in English
• Be in possession of a valid code 8 drivers license
• Be a team player, and be able to work under pressure
• Be able to travel at short notice
Due the high technical nature of this position, this position will be advertised both internally and externally.
An aptitude test will need to be completed prior to final selection.
