“DON’T!”

That’s my message to anyone thinking about faking a disability to get ahead.

I say this as someone with a disability myself, and as someone who cares deeply about what happens to disabled people when trust is abused or broken.

Because when disability fraud is exposed, the consequences rarely stop with the person who committed it.

Employers can become more suspicious. Verification can become more intrusive. And people with genuine disabilities, particularly those with invisible disabilities, can find themselves having to explain, justify and prove themselves again and again. That’s not fair!

Neither people with a disability, nor employers looking for great talent, should have to pay the price for someone else’s dishonesty. This is why I believe we need to talk more openly about disability fraud, while also being very clear about respectful ways to balance protecting against fraud and avoiding treating people with a disability with suspicion.

I’ve written more about why disability fraud is so damaging, why it needs to be taken seriously and what fair, dignified verification can look like.

Rethink Disability: move beyond awareness.

Most organisations have disability policies. Many have accessibility commitments. Some provide disability awareness training.

But are your people actually confident enough to disclose a disability, ask for an adjustment or have an open conversation about disabilities?
Because you cannot policy your way out of stigma. You have to change the experience.

That is the thinking behind Rethink Disability Day, Bradshaw LeRoux’s immersive, full-day workplace activation designed to shift disability inclusion from something people know about to something they understand and act on.

Your people will:
📌 Audit your physical environment through a wheelchair-led accessibility experience
📌 Experience the realities of non-visible disability through immersive, facilitated stations
📌 Hear directly from people with lived experience
📌 Build confidence around disclosure, adjustments and support
📌 Identify barriers and enablers within your organisation
📌 Report findings directly back to leadership to move the conversation forward

And importantly, the work does not stop when the day ends. Our continuous improvement framework helps turn insight into sustainable change.

This is not another awareness day.
It is a culture and paradigm shifting experience that asks a much bigger question:
What is disabling people in your workplace, and what are you prepared to change?

Led by disability confidence specialist Lesa Bradshaw, Rethink Disability Day brings lived experience, accessibility and behavioural change together to help organisations build genuinely disability-confident workplaces.

If you are ready to rethink disability, let's talk.
