The Department of Mineral Resources and Petroleum has confirmed that petrol will increase by R1.43 per litre from Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Diesel will decrease by between R2.61 and R3.24 per litre depending on the grade, while illuminating paraffin will drop by R5.96 per litre. LP gas prices will also decrease.

The petrol hike is due to government cutting the fuel levy relief in half for June, which automatically added R1.50 back onto the pump price. Strong over-recoveries from the international oil price and rand-dollar exchange rate allowed diesel and paraffin to decrease despite the levy cut.

For a 50-litre tank, petrol will cost R71.50 more to fill from Wednesday while diesel will cost up to R162.00 less. With levy relief ending completely in July, motorists should prepare for another increase of around R1.50 per litre on petrol and R1.96 per litre on diesel next month.
