My top tips for Managers and Entrepreneurs:

1. Step outside of your comfort zone

It’s easy for leaders, managers and entrepreneurs to get caught up in their day-to-day responsibilities and tasks. However, to grow both professionally and personally, I encourage business leaders to step out of their comfort zone and into their stretch zone. This is because, while their comfort zone might feel safe and familiar, it’s very easy to get stuck there. So, when they take even small steps into their stretch zone they can start to grow, and as a result, their comfort zone expands with them.

2. Connect with your team

Making an investment in your people will not only make them feel valued but will also encourage their own investment in your business. As your business grows, it is important to continue to help your employees grow in their careers along with the business. When people feel invested in, they are more likely to care about their work and the workplace.

3. Know your priorities

More often than not, leaders of businesses or start-ups are trying to keep their head above water and be all things to all people. This usually isn’t very sustainable or effective, so instead, they should focus on the business objectives. One of the best ways to do this is to set clear goals that result in propelling their business forward.

4. Be proactive, not reactive

Although progress requires actions, business leaders often fall into the trap of being reactive as opposed to proactive. Having clear goals can help with this, as they create a clear map for the way forward, but also look at current processes highlighting strengths and weaknesses so potential problems can be dealt with.

Toxic environments make people sick, make projects fail, and make best employees quit.

Signs you work in a toxic environment:

1) Disrespect and belittlement

2) Unreasonable pressure to get short term results at expense of the long term strategy

3) Inequity, unfairness, favoritism, injustice

4) Any kind of harassment and bullying

5) Lack of empathy, of appreciation, of support

6) Excessive control known as micromanagement

7) Morally questionable environments, lack of integrity, encouragement of dishonesty

In an environment like this, no matter how great a vision and strategy are - they will never be executed on.

Great leaders fix toxic cultures.

They empower, involve, listen, appreciate, challenge, support, mentor. They value hard work and job well done, honesty, integrity, commitment and dedication.
