As the cold front blows in and we come to the realisation that winter is here we wanted to chat about what that means. Winter can be really hard to stay productive, at least for us it can! When it’s cold out there’s nothing like a cup of hot chocolate while snuggled up on the couch and watching some TV. But there’s this big thing called a career that we need to stay motivated about.

So what can we do to stay inspired and top of our game in the chilly season?

Get Physical outdoors. Being outside in the sunshine and getting your blood pumping can give you that much needed lift.

Keep your office or work space warm! When you are comfortable your mind can focus and get into flow.

Eat well. Which yes, is probably the hardest thing to do in winter because comfort food is so tempting but it will leave you feeling more sluggish and bloated. Not fun.

Set some new goals that will give you a sense of accomplishment and make you more productive.

Start planning that summer vacation to keep you excited!

Some people thrive in winter but most of us are at our most productive in summer time. Which season do you find you get the most done?

"But the future of the workplace requires taking what we’ve learnt can be done alone – all the ordinary stuff – and what we’ve learnt is so much better done in teams – all the creative stuff – and establishing a hybrid which sees the office become an innovation hub.''

If you want to innovate, you can't do it alone, says Andrew Robinson.

Working from home can already seem overwhelming if you’re new to it, throw in busy children and you have a possible recipe for chaos.

As we all adjust to having our kids attending school from home, while trying to balance work and life, here are some of our tips to stay sane:

1 - Schedule, schedule, schedule!

Just because you’re all home, doesn’t mean PJs all day, late breakfasts or working from bed. Act like it’s a normal day. Get everyone awake, dressed, fed and ready to start working by a certain time and make set lunch breaks and an end time. Once routine starts to set in things should run more smoothly and allow you batches of time to do deep work while the kids are busy.

2 - Lots of little breaks.

Taking a 10 minute break every hour to refuel, check on the kids and reset for the next hour. This will help you keep your flow and energy up.

3 - Make a dedicated “Quite space” in the house.

Ensure your kids know this is a no talking and do not disturb zone. So if you’re in here, you are not to be interrupted. Only use this space when you urgently need that quiet time so they know it isn’t often that you need it, but when you do its serious.

How is everyone finding working from home with your kids? Any tips for us?

Keeping connected and social during Lockdown

During this time it can start to feel lonely at home, especially if you live alone! But with technology these days, you can stay connected to friends and have fun while doing it. Here’s a few things we’ve been doing to keep our weekends entertaining from the comfort of home:

1 - Quiz nights!

Find a group of friends who love a good quiz night, book in a Friday night, google some online quizzes or make your own questions and then simply dial everyone in on a zoom call and play the night away.

2 - Have cook offs.

People have been so inventive during this time. A really fun thing to do is challenge friends to all cook a certain meal from home, then upload your video clip or photos to social media and have your other friends vote for who wins! Then when lockdown is over you can treat them to a dinner out.

3 - Have a Netflix party.

Netflix has an extension that let’s you and your friends all watch the same movie from your separate homes. You can then discuss the movie in real time on a dedicated online chat located next to the movie. It’ll be like our watching together at the cinema.

Most of us love and crave human connection so even if we are isolated right now, it’s good to stay connected. What have you all been doing to stay connected with friends and family during lockdown?
