4 Education and Experience Requirements
• University degree in Computer Science.
• 2 - 5 years of experience in a Software Development role.
• Previous Java Development is essential.
• Payments Industry experience would be a major advantage.
5 Team
5.1 Size
• 10 Developers.
• 2 Architectural Leads.
• 1 Software Development Manager.
5.2 Skills of individuals
All of our Developers have at least a BSc Computer Science Honours degree from UCT and around 1-3 years of experience. Our Senior Developers however have 9+ years of experience in the Payments space also with degrees in Computer Science from UCT and Stellenbosch.
5.3 Age group
We have a relatively young work force - the age of our Developers range from 24 – 38 years of age.
5.4 Introvert, extrovert
Our Developers work well together in collaborative groups and a great deal of the work involves dealing with customers. So our Developers need to have good communication skills.
5.5 Staff turnover
To date no full time Developers have left.
5.6 The Role
In this role you will work as a Developer, coding primarily in Java. You will be heavily involved in the design, development and architecture of our products, and will also be responsible for mentoring and growing Junior Developers. Currently our technology landscape includes: Java, MySQL, InnoDB, Git, Maven, Circle CI, Python, Bash, Ansible, JavaScript, Node.js, SOAP, REST, React and AWS.
5.7 Responsibilities
• Analysis, Design, Development and Architecture of my client’s payments software solutions.
• Writing new code for bespoke client projects and extending the functionality of our product suite.
• Mentoring and providing technical leadership to junior team members.
• Working in a technically challenging environment where the solutions you build require 99.9% uptime.
• Taking ownership of full lifecycle software development projects.

7.1 What we do
My client is a high growth FinTech company, founded in 2012 by a team of South Africa’s leading payments technologists. Our business houses some of the best software architects, developers and consultants in the country. All of our software is developed in-house, at our offices in Cape Town.
Already in four short years Capitec Bank, Pick n Pay, Massmart and other major retailers, banks, and international money transfer firms utilise our technology to provide services to their customers.
Our feature product is a cloud based transaction processing switch. We also provide specialist software development services & consultancy for bespoke projects to enhance our customers’ existing payments infrastructure.
