National Kidney Awareness Week – Empowering Kidney Health with RenoCare. The first week of September is National Kidney Awareness Week in South Africa.

Kidney disease often develops silently. In fact, chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects roughly 10% of the global population, yet it often has no noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Many people don’t realise their kidneys are in danger until the disease is advanced. Risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and a family history of kidney problems can increase your chances of developing CKD. Conditions such as hypertension and diabetes slowly damage the delicate blood vessels in the kidneys, leading to CKD over time. It’s crucial to be aware of these risks – especially if any of them apply to you – so you can take preventive action.

Can I expect a salary at my internship?

You might receive a stipend as a local South African, but this is NOT guaranteed. Most companies in South Africa DO NOT give stipends to local students, as you are an intern/volunteer at the company to gain experience.

By law, if you are a foreign student not from South Africa, you will not receive a salary/stipend. Your tourist visa only allows you to conduct an unpaid internship, and the company cannot legally pay you.

It might be possible for the company to contribute to some of your costs, such as transportation, but do not expect anything.
