Die land se eerste Internasionale Meesterklasse in Orkesdirigering word van 28 tot 31 Oktober in Bloemfontein aangebied.

In 2022, a group of South African professionals, led by Dr Danre Strydom from the UFS, partnered together to institute the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗜𝗪𝗖). The purpose of this competition is to reinvigorate and complement the South African classical music fraternity for advanced woodwind players.

All three voice lecturers of the Odeion School of Music will share the stage in Opera Highlights: mezzo-soprano Teresa de Wit, baritone Aubrey Lodewyk and tenor Albertus Engelbrecht, with Hans Potgieter at the piano.

Expect some of the most beautiful arias and duets ever written:
- The beloved duet from Bizet's The Pearl Fishers
- Rossini's sparkling Barber of Seville
- "Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix" from Samson et Dalila
- Wagner, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, and scenes from Korngold's rarely performed Die tote Stadt

Vier nuweling-dirigente kry danksy die International Orchestral Conducting Masterclass Initiative (IOCMI) binnekort die geleentheid om met die Vrystaatse Simfonieorkes te werk, onder leiding van die internasionale dirigente Daniel Boico en Gerry Cornelius.

Die IOCMI is onlangs amptelik gestig om die gaping tussen gevorderde dirigeeropleiding en die professionele orkespraktyk te oorbrug. Dit is ‘n gesamentlike inisiatief van die Vrystaatse Simfonieorkes en die UV se Odeion Skool vir Musiek, en verwesenlik Daniel Boico en Marius Coetzee se jare lange visie om nuwelingdirigente toegang tot kundige mentorskap en egte podiumervaring te gee.
