What we can’t see below the waterline often has critical impact on vessel performance. Simple tools like GoPro – combined with data-driven insight – are giving crews a clearer view of hull condition during everyday operations, support more timely decisions on hull condition, efficiency, and fuel consumption.

Ashish Malik, Managing Director, represented Anglo-Eastern as a panellist at the SMOU x SSA YEG event on 18 May, International Day for Women in Maritime, contributing to discussions under the theme “Clearer Communication, Safer Seas” and the broader focus on women in maritime.

Joining a panel moderated by Dr Akanksha Batura Pai, alongside fellow speakers including Capt Hari Subramaniam, and 4th Engineer Jinghong Yin, Ashish shared perspectives on strengthening communication and leadership across the industry.

As part of the discussion, he highlighted Anglo-Eastern’s people-centric approach to leadership, where effective communication supports trust, safety and alignment between ship and shore teams. Practical initiatives such as Anglo-Eastern Women of Seas were also referenced, reflecting our focus on retention, progression and a more inclusive onboard culture.

The session further reinforced communication as a proactive enabler for safety and operational improvement, while encouraging young maritime professionals to speak up and contribute to a more open and respectful working environment.

We thank Singapore Shipping Association Young Executives Group (SSA YEG) and Singapore Maritime Officers Union (SMOU) for organising the event, and all participants for an engaging and thoughtful exchange.

Nearly three months into the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, 16 ships and around 360 crew members under Anglo-Eastern’s managed fleet remain stuck inside the Gulf, with these seafarers feeling the strain.

Our CEO, Bjorn Hojgaard, and Group Managing Director of Operations and Shared Services, Swapnodeep Mondal, sat down with TradeWinds to share how the evolving situation is reshaping ship management and challenging the principles governing free movement at sea.

They also touched on how security intelligence has become part of normal day-to-day ship operations rather than a specialist function reserved for exceptional voyages, and a way to reduce confusion and anxiety for seafarers facing these uncertain situations.

Recent events have reinforced how quickly the maritime operating environment can shift, with geopolitical dynamics, sanctions complexity and evolving threats becoming a constant backdrop rather than isolated disruptions. In our latest Foresights, we reflect on what this means in practice – from the need to interpret increasingly fragmented intelligence to ensuring crews remain supported through extended periods of uncertainty.

Within the backdrop, we also highlight how Anglo-Eastern’s Global Security Desk provides centralised, real-time intelligence, structured decision support and continuous fleet monitoring to guide day-to-day operations.

We are honoured to have received the Health & Wellbeing Award at the Spinnaker Maritime People & Culture Conference 2026 in London, a key industry recognition that highlights impactful, people-focused initiatives across the global maritime sector. Our HR representatives Chibuye Ngosa and Miryam Carpino accepted the award on behalf of the company.

The recognition reflects the continued development of our WE Care programme, an Anglo-Eastern initiative that takes a structured and practical approach to well-being by bringing together medical support, mental health, engagement and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) initiatives. At its core is a simple goal: ensuring accessible, relevant support for seafarers, wherever they are in the world.

Our sincere appreciation to the organiser, as well as our internal teams who have supported the development and implementation of this programme. Well-being at sea is not a standalone initiative, but a continuous commitment, and we remain focused on strengthening programmes that make a tangible difference in the day-to-day lives of our people.

Set against a backdrop of geopolitical complexity, evolving fuel pathways and accelerating digitalisation, our latest issue of LeaderShip brings together a set of stories that reflect how we as an organisation continue to engage with this complexity in a practical and grounded way, responding – instead of reacting – with focus, resilience and long-term thinking.

In this edition, we feature our growing presence in Greece – a market with a deep maritime heritage and exacting expectations, looking at how our presence there has evolved, combining global ship management capability with solid local leadership, technical depth and an operating approach shaped by close relationships and trust.

Meanwhile, a closer look at our Global Security Desk highlights how intelligence led risk management is helping our clients and crews navigate an increasingly complex operating environment. We also revisit the Anglo Eastern Manila Conference 2026, reflecting on what delivering excellence means in practice across people, operations and support on the ground.
