❓ “How many deals have you done lately?”
That’s one of the most common questions I hear at private capital conferences.

But I’d argue it’s the wrong question.

The more interesting - and telling - question is:
“How many deals have you exited recently?”

As we all know, it’s not just about getting capital deployed. It’s about supporting companies all the way through their journey - creating value, navigating challenges, and achieving financial (and in our case impact) outcomes together.

I find the same applies when we talk about the Portfolio Manager role. I’ve noticed it generally doesn’t carry the same glamour as the “rainmaker” - the deal-maker scouting for and closing the next big opportunity. But in reality, it’s one of the most critical roles for any fund.

A great Portfolio Manager becomes a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs, working side by side with them to achieve their goals and weather the ups and downs of entrepreneurial life. This is where so much of the real impact and value is created.
