I’ve worked 3 full-time remote roles between 2024 and now, and I got every single one from LinkedIn.
I have over 88k followers there now, and it brings me consistent monthly gigs and contract work.
If you’re job hunting remotely, here’s how to use LinkedIn to your advantage:
1. Your headline is not your job title. It’s prime real estate. Use it to tell recruiters exactly what you do and who you help.
“Remote Customer Support Specialist | Helping SaaS companies deliver 5-star experiences” beats “Customer Support Rep at XYZ.”
2. Your banner image is free advertising space most people waste. Use it to state your value proposition, list your skills, or share how to reach you. A blank blue banner is a missed opportunity.
3. Turn on “Open to Work” but set it to recruiters only. You still show up in searches without broadcasting it to your current employer or network. (You can watch a YouTube video on how to turn on this setting)
4. Your About section should read like a pitch, not a resume. Open with what you do, back it up with a quick win or result, close with what you’re looking for.
5. List your skills and get endorsements. Recruiters filter by skill keywords. If “remote work,” “project management,” or “Zoom” aren’t listed, you won’t show up in that search.
6. Turn on the “Companies I’m interested in” feature. It quietly tells LinkedIn’s algorithm and recruiters at those companies that you’re paying attention. (I already made a post on how to turn on this setting.)
7. Post consistently, even if it’s just commenting thoughtfully on others’ posts. Visibility compounds. Recruiters find people who show up, not people who are invisible until they apply.
8. Your featured section should have proof: a portfolio link, a case study, a testimonial, or a certificate. Don’t leave it empty if you’re just starting out.
9. Customize your connection requests to recruiters.
“I’d love to connect” gets ignored. “I saw you hire for remote roles at X, would love to stay on your radar” gets accepted and remembered.
10. None of this works overnight. My 3 roles didn’t come from one lucky post, they came from months of consistent visibility. Start today, and watch it compound.
Hope this helps.
