Ever wondered what a staffing agency actually does?

Here’s the simple version: a company has an open position and needs help finding the right person. That’s where a staffing agency comes in.

We learn what the employer is looking for, then talk with people whose experience and goals might line up with the opportunity. If there seems to be a good fit, we help make the introduction and guide you through what comes next.

Depending on the position, you might be hired directly by the company, work through the staffing agency, or start in a temporary role.

And talking with a recruiter doesn’t mean you’re committing to a job. It’s a conversation. You get to learn about the opportunity, ask questions, and decide whether it makes sense for you.

Sometimes it’s a fit. Sometimes it isn’t. Both are completely normal parts of the process.

Maybe you got a lot done. Maybe you worked with people who made the day easier. You felt comfortable asking a question, someone noticed your effort, or you had the support you needed when something didn’t go as planned.

Those little things can tell us a lot about our work environment.

The right workplace isn’t one where every day is perfect. It’s one where the good days have something behind them—good people, trust, support, meaningful work, or simply feeling comfortable being yourself.

Sometimes checking on someone sounds as simple as, “You’ve seemed a little quiet lately. How are you doing?”

And then actually giving them time to answer.

We spend a lot of our days around other people—at work, at home, running errands, sitting in the carpool line—and it’s easy to assume everyone is doing okay unless they tell us otherwise.

During Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, we’re thinking about the value of paying a little more attention to each other. Not because we’re expected to fix what someone is going through, but because noticing and listening can matter.

If someone tells you they’re struggling, believe them. Stay with the conversation. Help them find support when they need it.

When you’re considering a new job, what do you want to know first?

Is it the pay? The schedule? What the day-to-day actually looks like? Why the position is open?

Some people want the salary range upfront before deciding whether it’s worth having a conversation. Others want to understand the role, the team, and where the opportunity could lead before deciding how they feel about the compensation.

And for a lot of people, it’s probably a mix of both.

There are jobs to fill. That doesn’t mean they’re easy to fill.

A recent HR Dive article found that 44% of hiring managers say their organization has jobs they can’t fill, up from 36% last fall. Even more striking: employers reported closing an average of 21% of open roles without ever filling them.

That gap impacts the rest of your team.

An open position doesn’t make the workload disappear. It gets redistributed, shifts get harder to cover, and existing employees feel the strain.

For employers, the challenge isn’t simply finding *someone*. It’s reaching the right people, keeping them engaged through the hiring process, and making the right match before an open role becomes a long-term staffing problem.

That’s where having the right recruiting support can make a difference.

A lot of what makes someone good at their job never shows up in the job description.

Maybe you’re the person who trains new hires even though you’re not a manager, keeps a running spreadsheet because no one else was tracking something, catches mistakes before they reach a customer, or gets pulled into difficult situations because you’re good at handling them.

Those things belong on your resume, too.

Instead of listing only your assigned duties, think about the work people regularly came to you for.

“Helped with new hires” could become “Trained and supported new team members during onboarding.”

“Fixed problems” might become “Resolved customer issues and handled escalations.”

The work may feel routine to you because you do it every day, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a skill.
