For every tradie, agent and small business owner reading this:
From 1 July the minimum wage in Australia goes over $1,000 a week for the first time. A 4.75% rise.
I'm not here to argue whether people deserve a pay rise. They work hard.
But here's what doesn't get said enough.
More than 14,700 Australian businesses went under last financial year. The highest number on record. And construction was the hardest hit industry of the lot.
The number one cause on the reports, year after year, is cash flow.
Wages are up. Materials are up. Insurance is up. The ATO is chasing harder.
You can't out-work a cost base that no longer adds up.
That's why more local businesses are building a leaner setup. One full time, trained virtual assistant handling the admin, the follow ups and the scheduling, so the local team can stay on revenue.
It isn't about replacing Aussie jobs. It's about keeping the doors open and the crew employed.
If your margins are getting squeezed, it's worth a conversation before the new financial year locks your costs in.
