Commander Jeff Toalson is welcomed as our September speaker by 1st Lt. Commander Ron Perry.
They are holding a replica of the battle flag of the 5th Kentucky Infantry Regiment. The "First National Flag" has been altered to become their battle flag. The large red and white stripes offer excellent areas to place "battle honors" and other key information such as "slogans". A cross of 11 stars has been placed in the large blue field to represent 11 Confederate states. The state flags of North Carolina and Texas werealso easily adaptable as regimental battle flags. The 5th Kentucky was one of five Kentucky
regiments in the Kentucky "Orphan Brigade."

1st Lt. Commander Ron Perry welcomed Captain Bob Kennedy, U.S.N. Retired to our July meeting. Captain Bob presented a marvelous talk on "Blockade Runners During the W.B.T.S." Over 80% of the blockade running attempts were successful and without those ship bringing the needed military supplies, foods, medicines, and raw materials there is no way the Confederacy could have
survived from 1861 to 1865.
