Yesterday marked the opening concert following the $13 million renovation of Wichita’s historic Orpheum Theater.

After 104 years, this building was in desperate need of restoration. My first glimpse of the newly renovated theater came as I entered backstage to prepare the piano for the concert. Looking out from the stage into the auditorium for the first time —she is absolutely glorious.

The historically accurate restoration beautifully preserves the character, and grandeur of this Wichita treasure while giving it a new life for its next 100 years.

The only thing missing…a vintage theater organ once again speaking from the original organ chambers, which remarkably are still intact. Hmmmm🤔

Another beautiful Steinway has found a new home!

Last week we delivered this 1912 Steinway Model B to a church here in Kansas, where it sounds absolutely gorgeous in the sanctuary.

We originally rebuilt this piano several years ago for its previous owner in Iowa. He loved the instrument so much that when he decided he wanted even more power, he traded the Model B back to the store and upgraded to a Steinway Model D for his home.

Now, at 114 years old, this wonderful Steinway has found a new place to continue doing what it was built to do — make beautiful music. We couldn’t be happier to see it in a setting where it will be played, enjoyed, and used for worship for many years to come.

One of the things we love most about restoring these great old instruments is knowing that their musical life can continue for generations. With the right care and restoration, a piano like this still has a lot of music left to give.

The new home for Wichita Piano Services

This week at Irish Creek Music Hall, the roof panels will be installed, followed by framing the front porch and installing the sidewall panels.

With temperatures expected to top 100 degrees all week, it’s going to be brutal working weather—but progress continues!

Every week brings us another step closer to bringing the Mighty Wurlitzer back to life at Irish Creek Music Hall.

As our time in Arlington, VA came to a close, we took some time to enjoy the sights and make memories - not only with our Wichita Piano team, but also with fellow piano technicians who have become dear friends over the years.

One of the greatest blessings of being part of the piano technician community is the friendships that extend across the country and around the world. While we may only get to see many of these friends once a year at convention, we always look forward to the opportunity to reconnect and catch up with each other.

The PTG Convention is about education and growth, but it’s also about the incredible people who make this community so special. We are thankful for the friendships, memories, and the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful group of technicians.

We are thrilled to share some exciting news! While at the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) Convention Trevor Penner passed his final exam to become a Registered Piano Technician (RPT)! 🎉

This achievement reflects Trevor’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence in piano technology. We are incredibly proud to have him as part of the Wichita Piano team.

While we were in Arlington, VA for the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) Convention, we had the honor of serving behind the scenes by helping move pianos throughout the event. From setup, during the convention, and teardown.

We were also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share our knowledge with fellow technicians by teaching two classes:

Last month our team had the privilege of attending the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) Convention in Arlington, Virginia. We firmly believe that continuing education is one of the best investments we can make for our customers, and there couldn’t have been a better place to learn.

With more than 130 classes covering every aspect of piano technology, we had the opportunity to learn from some of the most knowledgeable and respected technicians in the industry.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to continue learning so that we can provide the highest level of service for our customers. Thank you for supporting us!

Wichita Piano is excited to announce that installation of our 98-year-old Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Organ has finally begun!

This remarkable instrument is being installed in the new Irish Creek Music Hall, where it will be preserved, enjoyed, and shared with our community for generations to come.

A shout out to KEVINS PIANO MOVING INC who met Gary in downtown Chicago today to help deliver a 7’ Steinway and pick up a 9’ Mason and Hamlin at an old downtown apartment building.

Anyone looking for a good piano moving company in the Chicago area - we recommend them, they were great to work with.
