WPCCN Leads the Charge in Preparing the Local Workforce for Clean Energy Jobs

WPCCN has taken a significant step forward in preparing the region’s workforce for careers in clean energy through a comprehensive staff training. The two-day workshop held on March 26th and 27th was led by Angela N. Son, The Green Launchpad and Antuan Cannon, Willdan Energy Solutions.

Through an interactive workshop, staff gained practical tools to guide individuals from interest to action—linking them to employers, certifications, and clear career pathways.

OJ Yizar, Career Center Manager said, “We can now identify specific employers, required certifications, and clear next steps through the database created. It makes our guidance much more precise and impactful, especially for job seekers who may not know where to start.”

“The recent passage of Westchester County's Visual Gun Warning Law is an important step in the County’s comprehensive approach to preventing gun violence. As a member of the Westchester County Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and Program Administrator for Youth Services, I have seen firsthand the importance of combining public awareness, education, and intervention strategies to address the root causes of violence.

Programs like the NYS Youth Employment Program (YEP) address prevention from another critical angle—providing young people with safe, structured opportunities that keep them engaged, connected, and off the streets.

Each year, YEP empowers hundreds of youth by helping them gain meaningful employment, build workplace skills, develop positive relationships with mentors, and envision futures beyond the circumstances that can place them at risk for violence or justice involvement.

The multi-faceted approach of pairing policies like the Visual Gun Warning Law with investments in youth employment and community engagement, demonstrates Westchester County’s strong commitment to prevention AND intervention. Simultaneously addressing both access to fi****ms, and the social and economic factors that contribute to violence is vital to creating safer communities.”

—Liz Oliveto, WPWDB Program Administrator for Youth Services
