I have received your interest in the Correctional Officer position at Ware State Prison.
Ware State Prison is hosting a Hiring Event and would like to invite you to join us on Tuesday, August 18th, 2020 from 9am-2pm. The event will be held at Ware State Prison Training Building. 3620 Harris Road Waycross, GA 31503. Ware State Prison is looking to hire you as a Correctional Officer. Must be dedicated, authoritative and hard working. Corrections is a critical component of the justice system. A career in Corrections requires dedication, perseverance, integrity and a commitment to working with and supervising individuals who enter the justice system. The rewards can be highly gratifying as you find ways to help people make real life changes that enable them to assume more positive roles within their families and communities.
Please take the time to read the email completely as it holds very important information that you will need to provide in order to go through the hiring process.
Please come dressed for interview and bring a change of clothes and sneakers for the physical fitness test.
Accuplacer or Compass Test, is an entrance exam that is required to start a career in Corrections. It is a Reading and Writing test. If you have tested before, please call the facility you tested at and have them email you your scores. If you need testing, we will be able to provide it to you on this day FREE of charge!! If you have a College Degree, you DO NOT need to take the entrance exam.
Please bring the following required items with you:
*Birth Certificate
*Social Security Card
*Driver's License (MUST be valid)
*DD-214 (If you have served in the Military)
*HS Diploma or GED
*Accuplacer or Compass Test Scores
*College Degree (If you have one)
*Change of Clothes and Sneakers for PT Test
Please be prepared to be with us for 1-4 hours. This is a process and you will need to test. Accuplacer testing is not timed, so you will have as much time as you need to complete. If everything is passed on this day, you will go home with a Hiring Packet and a Start Date!!
***Must be able to pass Background Check and Drug screen*** NO FELONY CONVICTIONS***
If you have anything come up on your background check, you will be required to provide us with police reports and dispositions for each and every charge, as well as write a statement on each and every charge, before we can continue the hiring process. The State of GA requires we get permission for employment for any applicants that have had any misdemeanor charges, probation charges, ect... The State of Georgia WILL NOT hire anyone who has been convicted of a felony.
***If you are a Former Probationer, You MUST be off Probation for 2 years, and show proof from Probation that you have SUCCESSFULLY completed Probation and paid ANY and ALL Fines.***
POST Certified applicants MUST not be deficient in any training hours for more than 1 year. If your POST shows deficient training hours for more than 1 year, you will need to bring your training forward before we will move forward with the hiring process.
POST is the certification you need to work as a Correctional Officer in the State of Georgia. If you are selected as an officer, We will help you become POST Approved. Once you have been Approved, that clears you for BCOT (Basic Correctional Officer Training). BCOT is a 5 week Academy and must be done in order to work as an Officer. You will start your career as a cadet at the prison and receive paid on the job training until you go to BCOT, which is also paid training.
GDC Correctional Officers work 12 hour shifts. You will be required to work 14 days per month. Voluntary Overtime will be available to you after you complete BCOT Academy (Basic Correctional Officer Training) Correctional Officers start with a salary of $31,040 with raises after 6 and 12 months. Promotion to CO II at the 12 month mark.
Preference will be given to applicants who are 21 years of age or older.
