My nephew, Baron, was born six months after my daughter, Autzen. Baron’s mother, Ashley, came to me and said that she did not want to go to back to the restaurant/service industry. It was hard on her body and restricted her time with her children.

Ashley, who is my younger sister, joined the Stars team shortly after that conversation. We took our time coming to that decision because working with family can cause internal conflict — conflict that we were not entirely sure we wanted to welcome.

Nevertheless, Ashley dug in to the property management industry and eventually chose to focus on affordable housing. She worked with Epic, Northstar, Dove and, two years later, decided to stay with Bridge Housing as a Leasing Coordinator for their Oregon properties.

I imagined scenarios like this when I started Stars Staffing Group nearly five years ago. Newbie calls us, newbie gets a job, newbie learns, newbie thrives!

Congratulations to Bridge Housing for getting a stellar employee and endless praise and pride for my sister, the newest affordable housing rockstar in Portland, Oregon. 🤩⭐️

Last week, I had the honor of delivering a check written to Partners in Careers. The money, nearly $20k, was raised by Multifamily NW and industry friends and colleagues at our annual PDX Golf Tournament.

As a member of the golf committee and a member of this powerful industry, I was elated. As a board member of Partners in Careers, I am incredibly thankful. The money will go toward helping to house displaced clients such as houseless veterans, immigrants, and/or local children of households in need.

Property managers and affiliates are often seen in a negative light, but our ability to come together to give this money to three different non-profits is testimony to how we make mountains move. Thank you to everyone who participated in the golf tournament. We are so appreciative of what you are able to provide.
