Known as being a pioneer for African-Americans in public relations, Moss Kendrix was the first African American to secure a major corporate account. Born in Atlanta, Ga. in 1917, Kendrix was educated in the public school system. Later, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Editor-In-Chief of the Morehouse newspaper, the Maroon Tiger and co-founder of Phi Delta Delta Journalism Society - the first African American society for students in journalism.

After graduating in 1939, Kendrix married Dorothy Marie Johnson. Together they had two children, Moss Kendrix Jr. and Alan Kendrix. In 1944, after returning from war, Kendrix became the director of public relations for the Republic of Liberia's Centennial Celebration. Also in 1944 he founded his own pr firm, The Moss Kendrix Organization that was based in Washington, DC. Some of his clients included the Coca-Cola Company, the National Dental Association, the National Education Association and the Ford Motor Company. Moss Kendrix has a legacy in the field of public relations because he made companies aware of the buying power of African Americans and he helped improve the representations of minorities in ads.

Among his other accomplishments include creating the National Negro Newspaper Week and the National Association of Market Developers.
