📣Trial victory for Sinapi Law Associates!

After a four-day trial in Rhode Island Federal District Court before Chief Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., a federal jury found in favor of our client on all counts in Rodrigues v. Dolan — a § 1983 excessive force, assault, and battery case against a former Pawtucket police officer — and awarded her $360,000 for emotional distress, plus prejudgment interest and attorneys' fees still to be awarded.

Most importantly, the verdict delivers long-overdue accountability for our client, who waited more than four years for her day in court.

Congratulations to our own Shannah Kurland, who tried the case and secured this excellent result! Holding those who abuse power accountable is at the core of what we do.

That's what the Rhode Island Civil Rights Enforcement Act (H7352 / S2607) fixes.

Sinapi Law recently obtained a significant ruling for a civil rights client in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island arising from an incident involving officers of the Providence Police Department.

In a rare decision, the Court granted summary judgment on liability for the plaintiff in a § 1983 civil rights case, holding that a police officer’s use of force violated the Fourth Amendment and that qualified immunity does not apply.

A Rhode Island federal court ruled police used excessive force in a § 1983 civil rights case, denying qualified immunity and granting summary judgment for the plaintiff.
