The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is a unique education agency with a statewide network of professional educators, trained volunteers, and county offices. It reaches into every Texas county to address local priority needs. Some of our major efforts are in mitigating drought impacts; conserving water use in homes, landscapes, and production agriculture; improving emergency management; enhanc

ing food security; and protecting human health through education about diet, exercise, and disease prevention and management. AgriLife Extension demonstrates the latest technology and best practices to improve the state’s food and fiber system, which serves all Texas consumers and contributes nine percent of the gross domestic product. Texas 4-H, our primary youth program, engages some 600,000 youth every year in learning projects, leadership development, and community service. Collaborative programs enable extension educators and their partners to extend resources and prevent duplication of services. In total, extension personnel and extension-trained volunteers achieved nearly 23 million direct teaching contacts, including distance education via the Web, in fiscal year 2015.

I receive questions on subjects and answer them based off of my knowledge, training, experience, etc. When I don't know the answer I rely on Extension subject matter specialist and my Industry expert friends.

One of the questions I was given 20+ years ago was by a church member, who had a cricket/wasp looking cross species. What is that?

Well I had to send that question and picture on to an Extension Entomologist. Now I know, its a ensign wasp. https://agrilife.org/urban-ipm/2017/08/11/ensign-wasps-theyre-the-good-guys-actually-girls/

I had a lady bring this insect in to me this week for identification. It is not the normal looking insect and people will bring it in every once in awhile for Id. Now you know!

Have you seen an insect in your house that kind-of looks like a fly, but not exactly? It will be black in color, but the stunning and key feature is the abdomen; it comes off the top of the abdomen and looks similar to a triangular flag. I know of many people who have asked me about this “weird ho...

We're excited to share this month's Texas Agricultural Law Resource which focuses on Landowner Liability.

This one-pager highlights helpful resources on topics such as liability protection strategies, https://agrilife.org/texasaglaw/files/2022/09/How-Landowners-Can-Protect-Themselves-From-Liability.pdfrequired

and recommended farm and ranch signage,

recreational use considerations, and other important legal issues that can impact agricultural landowners.

We hope you'll find it useful to share on social media, include in newsletters, or reference when working with producers and landowners. Tiffany's also recently posted a podcast on landowner liability.
