The Urban League of Hampton Roads’ Out-of-School Workforce Solutions program is a grant funded program under the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA), which provides workforce development training and counseling to Out-of-School youth in the Hampton Roads area. Workforce Solutions is a 12-week program consisting of 8 weeks of classroom training and coaching, followed by and 4 weeks of on-th
e-job training. Participants will have the opportunity to work with companies within specific industries (health, retail, hospitality, trades, Information technology, etc.) to gain a meaningful perspective and training within their areas of interest. They will concentrate on industry specific skills, as well as general work and life skills that will be needed when entering the workforce. Participants will also have the opportunity to receive incentives and awards based on milestones that are met throughout the program. This will be a positive reward for their accomplishments, to encourage them to always strive for their best. Certain criteria must be met in order to gain entrance into the program. The participants must be:
• 18-24 years old
• Not currently enrolled in school
• Have a specific need or barrier (i.e. School dropout, basic skill deficient, disability, parenting/pregnant, low-income status, homeless, receiving public assistance, etc)
• Youth living in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Portsmouth
Our mission is to assist these young adults with developing the skills and outlook that they will need to reach their goals.
