How we treat candidates matters...especially now! I’ve been reminded that during tough economic times, what people often need most isn’t just a job, it’s understanding, communication, and respect.
As recruiters, we’re in a unique position. We see both sides - companies facing challenges and candidates doing everything they can to find their next opportunity. It’s not always easy, but how we treat people in these moments - matters.
Even when hiring slows down, there’s no reason for communication to stop. A quick update, an honest conversation, or a few words of encouragement can go a long way. I never forget that for many candidates, this process is deeply personal — and sometimes, a kind message can make all the difference.
I’ll always stand by this, unapologetically: recruiting is about people first, and business second!! The economy will recover, roles will open, and business will pick up again. The way we show up for others in times like these says everything about who we are.
