In an effort to combat ongoing workforce shortages, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a memo providing states with significantly more flexibility regarding CNA training.

It allows training to take place across a wider variety of settings (such as nursing homes, hospitals, and vocational centers), allows remote/virtual testing options for written exams, and clarifies that LPNs can act as instructors under appropriate supervision. (facilities cannot charge CNAs for training, materials, or testing fees if they are already employed or have a pending job offer.)
