Ambassador Personnel is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Mechanic II for our client, with opportunities available in Fairburn and LaGrange, GA. Can you diagnose the problem—not just change parts? We need someone who knows their way around diesel equipment, air brakes, electrical systems, and computer diagnostics—someone who can identify the root cause of a problem and make the repair with minimal supervision. As a Diesel Mechanic, you’ll perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on company vehicles and equipment. You’ll conduct thorough inspections to identify potential mechanical and safety issues, use OBD and computer diagnostic systems, scan tools, multimeters, fault codes, live data, and diagnostic reports to pinpoint problems, and diagnose and repair air and hydraulic brake systems. You’ll also troubleshoot electrical, charging, starting, lighting, and climate-control systems; identify worn components, fluid leaks, damaged belts and hoses, exhaust leaks, and other developing concerns; and complete repairs and component replacements with minimal supervision.
This role also includes documenting diagnostic findings, repairs, and parts used in the work-order system, communicating repair recommendations to supervisors and parts personnel, assisting entry-level mechanics as directed, and maintaining a clean and safe shop environment. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and 2–4 years of heavy-duty vehicle or diesel mechanic experience, or an equivalent combination of technical training and hands-on experience. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrains, suspension, steering, chassis systems, air and hydraulic brakes, preventive maintenance, and computer diagnostic equipment is required. The ability to systematically diagnose mechanical and electrical problems rather than relying on trial-and-error parts replacement is essential.
A CDL is preferred but not required, and ASE certification in brakes, preventive maintenance, electrical systems, or related areas is a plus. Candidates without current ASE certifications should be willing to obtain applicable certifications. Basic knowledge of DOT inspection requirements and FMCSA out-of-service criteria is also preferred. This position is performed primarily in a vehicle repair shop and requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, and frequent use of hand and power tools, along with the ability to work around noise, dirt, grease, dust, automotive chemicals, and moving equipment.
