The Child Advocacy Center had a blast passing out candy, bubbles and slap bracelets at this years Trunk-Or-Treated host by Miami County Job and Family Services! This is always such a great event and we enjoy seeing the kids having fun! 🎃👻

A huge thank you to Timber and Bow and their customers for their donations to the Child Advocacy Center. Last week Timber and Bow offered a discounted play ticket to customers who brought in a donation for the children we serve. We appreciate their thoughtfulness and the children will love having a snack to fill their belly when they come in! What a great way to use your business to serve others!

Take advantage of the changing season to boost your child’s cognitive and motor skills without relying on screens. Go on a “nature treasure hunt”, collecting acorns, twigs, leaves, pinecones, ect. Then use the items to create crafts. Have exploratory and fun conversations about the hunt and items.

What I do?

My name is Rebecca Whitten and I am the Family Recruitment Specialist at Isaiah's Place. In this role, I do community engagement with events of all kinds. I talk people through the whole process of what becoming a foster parent looks like from training to real-life with kiddos. I also lead the Loaves and Fishes ministry where, we partner with churches and schools to provide frozen family meals to our licensed families with kiddos. And lastly, I manage our social media.

Why do I love this role?

What don't I love about this role?! Having been a foster parent 10 years ago who didn't know anything about foster care, or have any friends who did foster care, we didn't do any research and we chose an agency that was just closest to our home. One where I didn't feel seen or supported, and they just treated us like another number. I will forever be grateful to them for giving us our 3 beautiful kids, but we closed our license as soon as we adopted and didn't look back fondly on our time there. God really stirred my heart about how this could look different and how our story wasn't over with foster care. My husband and I learned so much about where the system was lacking and needed improvement. Ultimately, we felt like we were alone, and because we are only 2 people, we can't change any of it. However, the Lord set in my lap my employment at IP and gave me a chance to see that there are great agencies with people just like me who want to change what this process looks like and support parents as much as possible throughout this whole journey. To provide resources to families that we were never offered and to see friendships blossom between families and connect them with churches who provide support. To see that the entirety of the staff are advocates for kids AND the families they are placed with. People who have walked the walk so to speak. Real talk, I guess my "why" at its core is to show people the side I never got to see.

I have been passionate about this position from day 1 and still more than 3 years in, I will shout from the rooftops how amazing Isaiah's Place really is and that your agency does matter!

Autumn brings upon highly unpredictable weather. Dressing children can be a battle by itself. Practicing layering, preparing for the chilly mornings and warm afternoons. Begin moving “summer” clothes out of the drawers and closet to help reduce the “arguing” in the morning on appropriate clothing to wear.
